Hi everyone! My name's Katy, I'm 18 years old, 5'10, and I have 50 pounds to lose!
So, here's my story. I've just finished a fantastic freshman year over at CU Boulder, where I major in microbiology and minor in neuroscience. Unfortunately, after going on the pill starting in September, I managed to gain 40 pounds in just 9 months.
I spent the first few weeks of summer at the doctor's office, completely despondant. I desperately wanted them to find something like hypothyroidism or high cortisol levels to explain how I managed to gain so fast. Alas, they found nothing, and I'm learning that I have to own up to it and take control of the problem, no excuses. I've lost 10 pounds so far, starting at 196, and I'm hoping to work my way down to 135 sometime within the next year.
It's really weird living in Boulder, because there are virtually no overweight people here. It's a health capital of the country, so I feel very alone and like the only 18 year old girl that has ever been overweight! (a BMI of 17 would be considered healthy-looking here, I kid you not). I'm really happy I'll have people here to relate to.
looking forward to getting to know you all!
