College senior looking to lose weight by graduation

What's up everybody...

I am a four year college student who has had ENOUGH of beer chugging and eating like absolute pig. From my sophomore year on I have been drinking A TON of beer which has lead to horrible eating habits. I've been drinking around 5 nights a week and it's all beer. I hate hard alcohol. During the week some nights I would have a few beers and on the weekend at college...well you get the hint....I've heard all the horror stories about beer adding weight to people. I've heard it's a rumor too. But I know one thing, it leads to horrible eating habits. Whenever I have a few beers or am slightly intoxicated bar food/pizza is what I go for. Whenever I'm sober I really don't eat that bad. I have always exercised. I played basketball in high school, play a ton of golf during the summer, and right now I'm lifting weights which probably doesn't help the weight gain but it's exercise and I enjoy it.

Leaving high school my senior year I was 6 foot 3 205 pounds and right now, I literally just weighed myself prior to joining this website, I weigh 6 foot 3 259 pounds. 4 years at college has been 50 extra pounds. I want to just introduce myself and see if anyone has any tips....especially on a new workout plan

I've had kind of a makeshift workout plan the past few months that I've been doing 4-5 days a week, but once again, it involves no cardio/abs. Here's what it has been....dumb bells have been 25 lb.

stretch
25 push ups
1 rep of 12 pullin up pants (kneeds bent, bend over back bent straight, pull dumbells up to hips)
1 rep of 12 military dumb bell presses
1 rep of 12 curls
1 rep of 12 (each arm) back scratchers
lunges 3 times back and forth

20 fly push ups
1 rep of 12 back flys
1 rep of 12 swimmer's press
1 rep of 12 outward curls
1 rep of 12 back outs
self-lunge/squats 3 reps of 5

20 arms close together push ups
1 rep of 12 (each arm) lawn mowers
1 rep of 12 shoulder flys
7-7-7 half, upper half, then full curls
12 shoulder dips
stretch

It's not a bad workout...I see some definition in my arms but my beer gut is huge, my butt sticks out, and I do have some minor man boobage going. I want to throw some running into this workout and I really think cutting out beer which in turn cuts out all the crap I eat while drinking will give me some good results....Any other tips please feel free! I want to get down to atleast the 220 range by May!

First welcome to the forum. you'll find a lot of great information in the stickies as well as a lot of support and advice from members.
Beer isn't just bad for gaining weight because it affects your eating, beer in itself is LOADED with calories and i can bet you don't stop at one or two... this isn't scientific fact and is mostly my own oppinion but alcohol actually dehydrates you quite significantly and is attributed to the hangover feeling you get the next day. some say it's being so dehydrated that causes you to feel that way ( i know it's true for me, i NEVER get hangovers and i know how to drink believe me). anyway i'll bet your body is actually trying to tell you your thirsty but we tend to confuse hunger and thirst signals, and because your already "drinking" your responding to the feeling with food. and obviously it's not going to be good food... who wants to make a salad when theyre drunk off their ass...
I gaurantee if you cut out all that junk alone you'd see a change. It's great that your into working out. if you enjoy it that makes it a lot easier...
lifting weights is great. any type of strength training is great for building or even at least maintaining muscle... it would be a really good idea to add some cardio to the mix though. even if you just did some walking it would halp out a lot...
hope it helps good luck

Thanks MO2. Appreciate the tips. You make a good point about the mixed signals between hungry and thirsty while you've been drinking. I never thought about it that way but it makes a ton of sense. After having a few beers I ALWAYS feel hungry even if I had just had a meal or eaten food an hour or two before. I haven't had one beer since Monday and I can already feel the difference with my energy levels. I haven't been snacking at night either. Last night I had a few wheat crackers but that's nothing compared to what I eat with a few beers.

Way to go on cutting the beer out! Thats great that you feel the difference. feeling good makes for an excellent motivator :D
Theres nothing wrong with snacking at night time. it's the quality of food your snacking on that counts and crackers is a much better choice than pizza or a plate of nachos... If you read around the forum you'll find it posted over and over again that snacking at night time will not cause you to become or hold onto fat. if you are genuinly hungry at night have a snack but try to pick things like fruit, vegetables or light popcorn :)
your doing a great job of making strides in the right direction keep it up
