Coffee?

caffeine is 'the' or one of the active ingredients in cutting or fat burning supplements. I'm guessing it can up your metabolism quite well taken in simple coffee

It does boost your metabolism a certain amount by itself, dehydrates you quite a bit though so gotta drink extra water. I used to mix a cup of coffee with 1/2 an aspirin and ephedrine to make a stack and it worked like a charm.

I tried drinking a couple cups about a half hour or so before workout and it gave me some extra pump - but I got really thirsty quick and couldn't keep my mouth moist during my workout.

Caffeine is secondary to synephrine (Bitter Orange Extract) in today's thermogenics. Also, that amount of caffeine once at the beginning of the day isn't going to do much for you. If you were supplementing 2-3 times a day with a reasonable amount of caffeine, then you might burn anywhere from an extra 100 - 400 calories per day, depending on your tolerance.

Caffeine-Performance-Dehydration

Here is an article that came out yesterday about caffeine's impact on athletic performance:

I personally feel a big difference when drinking caffeine before workouts, especially cardio. I do agree that coffee can slightly dehydrate you and it is not the most ideal athletic drink anyhow. I mix SmartBoost in my Gatorade or bottled water. You can then "boost" up and stay hydrated while also getting vitamins. It also helps me cut calories because I don't like coffee without at least some milk and sugar (don't trust sweeteners).

It makes your workouts a lot better. I Never work out without some caffeine in my system. The impact on your metabolism is subtle

so what ur all saying is that if i were to take a cup of coffee in the morning and/or before my cario or workout i would burn more calories?

caffeine was/is one of the key ingredients for all those fat burning pills that come and go like Stacker.

"What does ECA stand for?
ECA stands for Ephedrine Hydrochloride (ephedrine), Caffeine and Aspirin. They are the three ingredients that make up the stack."

More? hmm... Caffeine burns calories on its own.. I'm not sure if theres any compounding effect taking it before cardio other than the fact that you're more "pumped" because your body is already burning energy more quickly. Maybe there's a nutrionist in the house.

But caffeine is Diuretic so drink plenty of fluids. Probably safer to consume caffeine afterwards since you can rehydrate yourself quickly and completely.

Coffee

The latest scientific evidence indicates that about 200 mg of caffeine, the amount typically found in two cups of coffee, will not only increase your level of alertness but also help your short-term memory. For that exam season or those important meetings and interviews, coffee drinkers everywhere will be delighted to know that it helps to give them energy to study and concentrate. Drinking coffee will also help us memorise all those little details that may give us an advantage at such critical times as coffee can also help boost short-term memory.

People! Don't you remember that episode of Saved By The Bell where Jessie takes caffeine pills so she can study for school AND prepare for the variety show? It almost destroyed her life! DON'T DO DRUGS!

Seriously though, I always thought that was a way for them to deal with the drugs issue without having to use a real drug. Caffeine is a drug that's become so mainstream it's laughable.

Caffeine is basically a "light" version of heroine - both work in pretty much the same way chemically, but heroine is much, much more potent. It can help a workout more because it works by releasing epinephrine (aka: adrenaline) into the bloodstream. It basically fuels your "fight-or-flight" primal instinct.

Heroine? Like, the amazonian goddesses of lore? :)

Seriously though, don't you mean cocaine? They're both stimulants and I "heard" somewhere that you can get caffeine from the same coca plant that produces cocaine.

Think heroin is a hallucinogen? Know its a derivitive of morphine. Not a stimulant like cocaine or caffeine.

The only thing that seperates drugs from minerals and vitamins is a shaky government organization that always seems a step behind everyone else (granted, its better than nothing).

Too much zinc, iron, Vitamin K3, A, D, etc, etc can cause mild or severe health problems if over-dosed just like caffeine.

Though its easier for us people to consume unhealthy ammounts of caffeine compared to Vitamin A unless 2 out of 3 meals consists of nothing but carrots (and a lot of them).

Its an over-used phrase but, "All in moderation" is usually a safe bet.

And for the record... I do remember that episode. She was cramming for some important test or something. Took so many and slept so little she exhausted herself.

But I never watched that show! Ever! And I'll deny it till my lungs explode! :)

It actually works like both heroine and cocaine. Heroine actually works along the very same chemical pathways and receptor sites as caffeine. These drugs, caffeine included, increase dopamine production, and decrease dopamine re-uptake. The reason you get addicted to cocaine and heroine is the same reason you get addicted to caffeine -- but of course, the effect is MUCH more subtle. :)

hey folks if you can get it, try Lion coffee from Hawaii. It is the Best I've had anywhere in the world. Anyone have a favorite they'd like to share?

I usually go for a Guatamalan blend thats roasted at my local coffee shop, it's light and seems to have alot of caffeine. Two cups is my max on that stuff though, makes my vision shaky after anymore than that.

They say light coffee has more caffeine than dark and that seems accurate to me.

Hey i tried a guatemalan blend from my local coffee shop. That was pretty nice, not too acidic and pretty smooth. Thanks for the hint.
