coccyx (tailbone) pain

Hi! I started hitting the gym last August 21. I had a weight of 178 lbs and a body fat % of 28.7%. I am 5' 10". I also started dieting. Then last October 21, i was weighed and measured. I reached my ideal weight of 160 lbs. I had a body fat of 20.9%. Here's the bad news. Everytime i sit on long periods of time, my tailbone hurts. I have a protruding coccyx. It is almost at a 90 degree angle. My doctor advised me to stop strength training especially if it will involve sitting or lying down. He told me that its ok continuing with my cardio and free weights (while standing). I am desperate of continuing to work out especially increasing my muscle mass while decreasing my body fat %. I want a body fat % of 15%. I am thinking of what alternative strength training exercises that will not involve sitting down or lying down. So can you please advise me on what will i do. Thanks!

There are all sorts of exercises you can do that do not include sitting or lying. The one exercise that you could not do, I don't think, is the bench press so maybe pushups would be in order. In any event, do your research, get a book on lifting and/or get with a personal trainer. You have lots of options and no excuses.
