The title of the thread: Everyone knows who "that girl" is. Everyone has written a song about her: Stevie Wonder, Marques Houston...you know, "that girl." "That girl," the girl that every girl wants to be and every guy wants to...well, ya anyway. While I have never been lacking in self confidence, and certainly don't need outsiders to affirm who I am...but I want to be hot. This journal will follow me on my road to becoming "that girl."

Disclaimer: Ummm...comments are always welcome...whether you agree what methods or not...but don't be a jerk...or a troll, 'cause I will just ignore you.
Legal Disclaimer: I am not a scientists, a nutritionist, or a doctor and I would suggest speaking with your doctor before you change your diet or exercise regimen.

My Stats:

Weight: 199 lbs.
Height: 5'5
Waist: Size 14
Bust: F Cup (No, I did not mistype...I am conviced if I chopped them off I would drop 15lbs easy).
Age: 22

ETA: I decided to shame the donkey and attach a starting photo. Forgive the two bras...I was going for a run (WITH A SHIRT ON!!!) and the girls need to be strapped down tight. Also forgive the hanging belly...I was trying to be REAL honest with myself.

The Master Cleanse: Day 1 and the Night Before

I have been eating a ton of junk...for the past four years. I call that time: College. I have decided to begin eating healthier and I thought that a great way to begin was to do a cleanse. Thus, I am embarking on the master cleanse. I have read the book and will stay on the cleanse for about thirty days. I will then transition according to the book...before moving to a mostly raw fruits and veggies lifestyle.

I am following the book to the letter including the night before ritual...

Night before: I ate healthy yesterday...lots of fruits and veggies...before I went to bed I had a cup of laxative tea.

Day 1: Master Cleanse: I woke up this morning and made the quart of salt water (room temperature water and two teaspoons of sea salt.) It really wasn't that hard to get down...infact, I liked the tea a lot less. I made my first two batches of the lemon drink; I made it in a 16 oz nalgene bottle so I just doubled everything else...I actually don't think it's that bad. I live in a sorority house and the hardest part about this whole thing is going to be resisting the food the cook makes...and finding creative reasons to avoid dinner...I think if I tell my friends I am trying to get in shape for graduation that will be enough to get them to leave me alone when they pig out on snacks. 6:32pm--So it's dinner time on Day 1 and I am really shocked at how easy this has been. The salt water thing "worked" (and since I don't want to go into detail about what "worked" means look up the effects to the Master Cleanse and you'll see what I am talking about.) earlier today and it really wasn't that bad. I am on my forth serving of the lemonade and I have to say I have aquired a tast for it. I don't have any cravings...I smelled some cheddar soup whipped up by the cook earlier today and fresh rolls and was temped but I just left the area of the smells and I have been fine. Everyone says the next couple of days are the hardest so I am quite relieved to have a nice Day 1. Before I go to bed this evening I will have the laxitative tea again. Exercise: I went for a brisk walk for about an hour and a half around Ithaca; it is gorgeous this time of year and I really enjoyed myself.

Note: Because I have embarked on this regimen I have decided to brush my teeth more often to prevent an unwated affets to my pearly whites.

Day 2

Day 2: Master Cleanse: Today was very similar to Day 1. I did the SWF in the morning and I had the tea last evening and will have it again this evening. I drunk about 5 lemonades today and I will probably have another in a few minutes because I am a little hungry. The only detox sympton I have noticed is the being cold but I think that has more to do with it being cold outside. The SWF this morning seemed less "effective" than yesterdays but after reading other journals I realize that this might be because my water was too cool. I am going to do very lukewarm water tomorrow. Day 2 went well and I am looking forward to tomorrow. I would say that I am looking forward to soild foods but I have decided to take it one day at a time. Exercise: I went for another brisk walk for about and hour and a half.

Update: I have decided to move my time on the fast from 30 to 21 days. I graduate from college on the 25th and my family (southern black...and you KNOW what that means...no, seriously, if you don't...my family could put the family is Soulfood to shame.) I DO NOT by any means plan to go back to my unhealthy eating habits...but feel like eating healthier in front of my family and not fasting will garner greater support and less attempts at interference. Plus, this is my very first fast and I feel like 21 days is a more manageable goal.

Umkay, in an effort to keep it totally real, I must say the cravings are in full effect. Mostly salty foods like chips, pretzels and popcorn. Yum. I love kettle corn and someone was popping some early today. I almost jumped on her back...okay...not really...ok, kinda serious. Neway, I will be going to bed shortly. I look forward to Day 3.

Thanks dear. I am planning to use this as a transition to a vegitarian or raw food diet. I am using my time on the cleanse (and away from preparing and eating) to do research on a new lifestyle. I hope that with exercise and a lifestyle change I will be able to keep off whatever pounds I do happen to lose; they are of course, a risidual benefit.

I'm totally clueless about master cleansing, but welcome to your diary!

I too want to be "that girl"

If that is you in your avatar you are certainly on your way! If you search "Master Cleanse" on this websites search engine you will find a wealth of information on the master cleanse as well as a link to the book in pdf. HTH!

Aww, thank you, that is me in that photo. It's from several months ago. I should update it with a more recent one. I'm still in the overweight range and am at 26.2% body fat. :(

Wow, if your current weight is 154 and you are "overweight" then you must be really tiny. I am 5'5 and when I was 154...which would be terrific...I was a 7/8. Ahhh...those were the days.

I'm 5'3" tall. I have some size 8 dresses that I can wear, medium tops and 11/12 size pants. I have always had wide hips, big bubble butt and muscular legs. I was a size 7/8 around 135 lbs.

Here's me around 135 lbs back in 1998

And here's me about 165 lbs last summer (side view)

(funny thing about this last photo, I can now pull those shorts off without unbuttoning or unzipping them, and they look pretty fitted right there).

Well, you look really fab in the first photo!

And I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO jealous of your butt in the second photo! I have tons of boobs and no butt and black men (which I tend to date) always comment on it. :nopity: LMBAO!

THANK YOU for sharing. I think you still look good and wish you all the best in your weightloss goals.

Well done for another day on the cleanse! i know a few people who have gone from the master cleanse to a vegetarian raw diet and have really gotten results from it

Day 3

Day 3 Master Cleanse: Same ole. Same ole. My BMs still aren't impressive and truthfully I haven't lost any weight and am wondering if this isn't really "cleaning" me and I am not getting that added bonuse of losing weight, would it be more effective to break the cleanse correctly. Start eating better and just have more intense workouts. I mean...I am SERIOUSLY thinking about it.

Something funny: I looked up my BMI using this nifty little tool and dum da da dum..I am morbidly obese. WOW! At this time I would like to thank ICE for making those delicious Philly Cheesestakes, a specical shout out to Just Desserts for making fabulous cheescake...LMBAO. But seriously. I reallly need to get it together. After visiting am realising that my situation is a lot more normal I am thinking of cutting the MC back even further to 14 days and starting a 85% raw lifestyle. I am a college student (read: broke) and it would be nice to start my raw diet it while all of the supplies (read: fruits, nuts, and veggies) are available to me for free right now. Hmmm...we'll, see. I will make that decision when I get to day 14 which will be on May 12th.

Day 3: So here I am at the end of Day 3 of the MC and I have decided to break my fast...at least temporarily. After finally coming clean with some of my Sorority members about my goals...I found out that one of my sorors has a similar goal and we are going to work at it together. My real problem with the MC is that while it is suposed to be all about poop and getting stuff out...but NOTHING is coming out. It is now 5:02am and I have not gone to bed. During dinner time...around 6pm I had about a handful of grapes and the recommended watery OJ. I had the laxative tea later and a SWF and nothing is coming out. I think one thing the cleanse has forced me to do is to listen to my body and I feel like my body is saying, "we are not getting enough of anything and so we plan to hold on to everything." Because the house has a lot of fresh veggies and fruits I think I am going to try living the raw lifestyle for awhile before I embark on "another cleanse." I mean, I don't think I gave it enough time to evaluate it, but I think I can say that I don't think the cleanse is right for me at this time. If it showed me nothing it showed me that I have A LOT more self control that I ever thought! And that was COMPLETELY worth it!

it all depends if you feel that you are benifiting from it, if you feel better for it then i would say continue but if you feel that your not really getting any where with it, i would suggest you stay on till day five then see now you feel then if you still feel your not getting anywhere then break the mc. five days is still really respectable some people can even do i day!

i think on those bmi things your only classed as an ideal weight when you are a skeliton lol! i dont use them as iam so into the morbidly obese range that i dont really see any improvement, i might use them when i lose quite a bit of weight!

Good luck with day 4! your doing really well

Update

A lot has happened since I created this diary almost a year ago. On May 25, 2009, the day I graduated from college, I weighed 199lbs. I can not tell you how ashamed I felt when I saw that number. I started this diary about two weeks before my graduation for two reasons and two reasons only: 1) I was going to see my mother and 2) I was going to see my exboyfriend, neither of which I had seen in months. Neither one of these reasons were good reasons to get in shape and consequentially I fell off the band wagon. The summer came and I lost about ten pounds from increased activity...which mostly meant riding my bike to my summer job.

On October 25, 2008 I sat down with a woman who I had only ever known to be a slender woman. She is about a 4/6 and is 45 years old and is in terrific shape. As we were having dinner she told me that she used to be a size 22 and weighed close to 300lbs. She committed herself to a better lifestyle after being diagnosed with diabetes at 43. I was so incredibly inspired by this woman. She changed her life at 43 and here I was fat and unhappy at 22 years old. On my way to the airport that evening I bought the book "Skinny Bit*hes" and became a vegetarian. About a two months later I went to the gym for the first time in almost a year. After my spinning class I stepped on the scale; I weighed 186lbs. I committed myself to getting into better shape and I began going to the gym regularly. On February 4, 2009 I was weighed on the scale at the doctor's office and I weighed 174lbs. A month later, on March 6, 2009, I was weighed again and I now weigh 160lbs.

I have messed up a lot. And if it wasn't for pizza cravings and bouts of laziness, I would surely have already reached my goal. But I'm committed and I finally understand that weightloss comes from hard work and SACRIFICE!

I have recently moved my target weight from 147lbs to 135lbs. When I made it to 160lbs I realized that while 160lbs seemed thin when I was 199lbs, now that I'm at 160lbs I realize I still have a bit of a ways to go.
