Clothing, and problem areas

I don't know how much the guys find this a problem, but one thing I've pretty much always struggled with is my proportions. This is the case whether I'm a good weight or not. For me, it's the size of my thighs, but I know most women have something they don't like about their bodies (tummy, butt, breasts, legs, arms, neck... you name it, someone will hate it on themselves). Can be a real confidence killer. One of the things I'm thinking about doing for myself when I lose all of that weight is get some nice clothes, and one thing I hope not to do is to get clothes that show off my problem area. But I'm not exactly sure how to do that. I thought it'd be helpful to discuss problem areas and the kinds of clothes that would help to hide them (or conversely, clothes to be avoided).

For me, I know that pedal pushers are completely out, as they make my thighs look twice as big as they are. In jeans, I have to go bootcut most of the time but will get wideleg where I can (straight will work on me when I'm thinner). Some skirts work on me but not others (but then skirts don't exactly match my personality), and (when I lose more of this gut) wearing more fitted clothes on my upper body (as most of my fat, at least when I'm thinner, is in my hips, thighs, and butt) also draws attention away from my lower body.

What about you? Wht are your problem areas, and what clothes look good or bad on you?

My shape is a lot like you only i've got a big arse as well. My legs aren't long either and i have a longish torso and broad shoulders. When i am skinny i look ok in anything though.

Nevertheless, I'm like you, pedal pushers/ capri pants look bad on me. Shapeless dresses look bad on me especially with string straps. I love tunics about knee length somewhat like jill shrimpton (the famous miniskirt model from the 60s). Knee length skirts and mini skirts look ok on me. I'm same as you with the jeans. I like bootleg jeans. And also low cut trousers are good for my backside. I find it very hard to find good trousers. Except when i'm size 8.

Shorts are difficult. Must be loose and around mid-thigh. I seem to have weird shaped thighs.

Anything that draws attention to my waist looks good.

I think Trinny and Susannah have got it pretty well worked out when dressing for different body types. I 've had a flip through their books and seen the odd show.

Colour combining and patterns are the other thing to factor in.

For me, one block colour is good. Or even an all over pattern. I shouldn't mix and match patterns too much.

I love lots of layers but they are wrong on me.

*sigh* Writing this post just makes me think about all my flaws. I'd rather not think any more about them.
