Cindy's Diary

Well...
I have no clue how to start out. I'll just get straight to the point. This is my first post and I've decided that I have to do something about my weight. I've been surfing the web in search for any type of free weight loss support groups.
I came across this forum and everyone here seems nice and very supportive, so I'm giving it a shot. :)
I'm 19 years old and am extremely overweight for my age. I've been overweight all my life, all the way back when my baby pictures started. When I was 15 I decided I needed to workout since I was 245lbs. My step mother, after having her first child, decided it wouldn't hurt her to join the diet with me, so we both worked at it.
I lost close to 90 lbs and was happy with the 'new' me. Then about 2 years later we moved to Florida. I started to become depressed and didn't want to talk to anyone or do anything. I let myself go needless to say. I moved back down here to South Carolina to live with my mother when I was about 17 and I'm horribly embarrassed to admit that I've gained back all of the weight and thensome.
I've come to realize that after the past three months of off again on again exercising that I'll never be healthy if I don't set my mind to it. I don't feel as if I can do it on my own, I need some support. My mother and step father I know will be supportive, but with a large pizza in the middle of the dining table and a salad in front of you it is hard to keep your self control, which I'm sure everyone is aware of. Its all about will power, which I used to have.
I'm starting over. At the age of 19 it is very uncomforting having back pains, side aches, and other problems due to being obese.
Anywho I'll stop boring everyone with my life LOL. I'm starting tommorrow, I'm going straight to the grocery store after work and I'm going to start piling up on health food, so wish me luck, haha. I'm actually excited about it this time because I feel I'll be able to go through with it to reach my goal, especially with the support of ya'll.

Yay! Welcome Cindy! Am I the first guest??? lol......

Great that u r goin to start this. We are all supporting and motivating each other here.... the people here are real sweet! And I've only been here for the 2nd day!

So good luck and hv fun with your new adventure! Happy grocery shopping! :D

Welcome! I just started here about 2 weeks ago and everyone is great, very supportive. The best (free!) tool I found through this forum is Spark they have some really good tools to get you started and a meal planner to help you track your calories.

"There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure."

Good luck!

Hey Crystalrain,

First of all welcome to the forum, it truly is a great support in this change of lifestyle of ours. Whatever you need a shoulder to cry on or someone to kick your butt the people here are for you.

At some point you said in your entry its a matter of willpower. Willpower sure keeps you going but plans helps too. Like you going to the grocery shop. I find it helps if I make a list at home. I make room for comprimises, but the candy aisle, sodas and junkfood is off limit. Other than that I for instance keep my home candy free and sodafree as much as possible, maybe I'll let my friends drink soda, but that doesn't mean I should too.... As little temptation as possible:)

Well, I hope you had a great day at the shops, maybe you can post what you bought today and what you normally would have bought, to see the difference.

Welcome! I know you'll love it here, I've only been here 1 week and it feels like years :) ...You can get all the supprt you need here.

Thanks. I was just crusing the board to begin with and the Mods here do a pretty good job with keeping everything straight, some boards are just...whoa insane.

I went to BiLo and started my little 'journey' lol. Here's what I got:

Salad

precut mushrooms

Five different healthy choice meals *I checked the calories*

Two regular frozen meals *not as much food as the healthy choice, in fact less, but I figured what the heck, less food same amount of calories, can't be too bad right?*

Cereal bars

Carl Budding sliced meat, which only has 70 calories for the entire pack! One pack is a serving size.

Grapes

24 pack of water and some of the sugar free crystal light to go packs, I can't drink plain water

and Special K cereal for the mornings because I never eat breakfast, and I've heard thats not good for you to skip a meal so, not like I'd miss it...but yeah.

So do we post daily what we eat and how many calories to keep track? If so then I'll just go ahead and post it.

Breakfast: cereal bar: 140 cal
Lunch: nothing because I worked straight without a break
Dinner: Healthy choice rice and spicy chicken: 410 *very tastey btw*

you can post whatever you like in here- what you ate.. calories... (I use sparkpeople for my food journal then just copy and paste the numbers into here) whatever makes you happy and helps you along...

sounds like you're off to a great start... :D

There's a few threads up in news on breakfast being important.. but look at it this way.. you wouldn't start up a car and run it without having gas in the tank.. you don't want to start your body and run it without having some foodin you.. (water too-- remember at breakfast time,y our body has gone about 8 hours without food or drink- it's dehydrated and probablyhungry.. :D

Nice to see yu in your diary

Looks like your off to a great start Crystal!! Keep up the good work!! It takes alot of courage for someone to admit that there overweight and need to change there habits, and thats the first step to successful weight loss. Your going to do great as long as your consistant with your eating habits and exercising. Something as simple as brisk walking can be a real fat burning exercise as long as your getting your heart rate up, and it can be just as benificial as running if you do it right. And be sure not to skip ANY meals, your not going to be successful if you do that because if you consume to few calories, your body will go into starvation mode and hang on to everything you eat. Good luck :)

Thanks Maleficent! That website helped bunches. It's very inspiring reading people's success stories. And its nice to actually have a plan with what I'm going to do for that day, as far as exercising and eating goes.

And WeightLossChick thanks for that bit of information :D Lord knows I can use as much as I can get! I was actually thinking about walking around the neighborhood with my mother's dog Sam who is overweight for a beagle LOL adorable, however. She said he couldn't make a full mile so I'm going to drop by and drop him off and pick up the other one who's made of muscle haha.

Hey Crystal,

Good work on the shopping, hope you like the food. If you ever need any inspiration just look trhough the diaries, there is a lot of hints and good ideas around here, sp you can customise what you think will work for you. Anyway your off to a good start and have a nice walk with the dog:)

Welcome here!

I know what you mean about trying to lose weight when those around you are supportive, but are eating like crazy around you. Just remember, you can adapt a lot of things to be lower calorie/lower fat. :)

Yea.... they are inspiring! I am so looking forward to nitetime when I sleep so that I can face the next day with exercise and discipline in eating the right stuff. (think i failed at lunchtime today lol):D

Thanks for the lovely comments :D

Yeah, lunch always gets me because its like, it needs to be small, but filling enough until dinner time lol.

Does anybody know how many calories are in a chicken breast?

Ok, today I got up at 7 and forced myself to eat breakfast LOL after I cooked it and it smelled so good I started to get hungry, so it wasn't too bad eating it.

I tried that omelet thing that's posted in the recipe section:
2 eggs: according to a website 128, but I'm not sure because my mom threw away the box and places the eggs in an egg tray
Corn beef: 70
mushrooms: maybe 40? not sure
Crystal Light: 10
Total: 248

Lunch:
sandwich which had
bread: 120 *one thing I forgot while shopping whole wheat*
Cheese: 70
1/2 tbsp mayo: 50 *a whole is a 100! insane*
Lettuce: 10?
mustard: 0 lol
corn beef: 70
oh and my crystal light haha: 10
Total: 330

That was a lot for a sandwich so I didn't have anything with it.

Dinner: 1/2 of green beans, plain: 25
broiled plain chicken breast: 230 according to the same website
crystal light: 10
Total: 265

snack: apple bread: 200 eck, I know.

1043 ok, is that too much? Because that looks like too much to me. Sorry I'm completely duh to this, lol, I'll get the hang someday.

Thank you. I LOVE mustard so I think I'm going to do that, after all you can barely taste 1/2 tbsp of mayo haha.

I just got back from my walk and thought I'd write it down. I actually feel soooo refreshed, its crazy. I brought my dog Alittlebit with me. It was his first walk so he HATED the leash, but he did so well, and I rewarded him with a treat when we got home :D Positive reinforcement never fails, I rewarded myself with a bottled water, I dont think it ever tasted so good.

I only walked half a mile because I was afraid to push him that full mile, he was panting within the first 5 minutes. Plus I think I'll work my way up to a mile too. ;) But I'm happy I actually DID it. Just thought I'd post, I'm too excited LOL.

Good for you for getting that walk in!!

I switched from regular mayo, to light mayo then to reduced fat (20 calories per TBS), however, I've been adding mustard to my sandwiches for flavor now which is HUGE for me, since I never liked it before ;)

Heres todays food schedule:

Breakfast: 2/3 cup of Special K 120 (that stuff is NOT filling, but good)
1/2 cup of milk: 75
Crystal Light: 10
Lunch: Michaela's Meatloaf & Mashed potatoes: 370
w/ one bottled water
Dinner: Omelet: 2 eggs: 140
corn beef: 70
mushrooms (3): 40?
w/ one bottled water

Total: 825 + 20 (crystal lights) 845

I'm trying to get my water in there guys. Just plain water, even though the sugar free crystal light is such a GREAT substitute, I'm trying to keep it pure, but I hate the taste, eck.

So far I had four cups of regular water, I'm working on two more before the end of the night and four cups of the crystal light water.
