After reading over the sticky I decided my best bet would be to answer the question below honestly and give myself a good target weight and time frame.
1. What is your current height and weight?
5'6" and 184.6 pounds
2. If you were at an ideal weight now, what would that weight be?
In my head I would love to be 120 pounds. I don't think that's very realistic for my build though so I'm shooting for 140 pounds.
3. At what weight would you like to be at four months from now?
150 pounds and on my way to 140.
4. Why do you want to lose weight?
I'd like to feel better, be able to play soccer with my son, and not get winded merely walking on the beach.
5. Do you want to lose weight for a specific life event such as wedding or reunion? If so, when is that event?
No, I have no specific event in mind.
6. What obstacles could get between you and your weight loss goals?
My hectic schedule and inabilty to always find time to cook dinner. I also tend to get discouraged easily when the scale doesn't drop as fast I would like it to.
7. Why do you think that you now have a weight problem?
Poor eating habits and food choices, lack of physical activity, sitting at a desk all day.
8. What lifestyle changes do you think would help you lose weight?
I joined a gym about a month ago. I've already lost 11 pounds. I'm consistent in my workouts. I have been doing a mix of cardio and strength training 4-6 days a week. I have been diligent with my food choices and caloric intake. I also have the most amazing girlfriend that's making these changes with me. She motivates me daily.
9. Have you lost weight in the past? If so, what has worked in the past to help you lose weight?
I have tried everything, but stuck with nothing for more than a month. I always felt as if I was punishing myself instead of making better choices and creating opportunities for a better life. Hopefully, at 35 - I can get past that.
10. Why do you believe that you did not lose weight or you gained the weight back?
Stupidity. Not practicing what I preach. Doing the same things and expecting different results.
11. What, if anything, has not worked for you in the past in helping you to lose weight? Why do you think it did not work?
Atkins didn't work for. I felt terrible. I have had success but the failure is my own fault. Not the fault of any particular plan i was attempting to follow. My lack of follow through and self discipline was my major hindrance.
12. Would you try writing down all food and drink consumed for a given period of time?
I would. I should in fact.
13. Do you cook at home often? If so, what do you cook?
I'm the lone cook in our house. I cook several times a week and every weekend. I try to cook healthy foods that can be taken to work during the week. We eat everything (in moderation) such as: chicken, fish, shrimp, eggs, fresh and frozen vegetables, whole grain breads, low fat cheeses, FF yogurt, fresh berries and melons, olive oil, smart balance spread on occasion, baked sweet potatoes.....nothing fried, nothing breaded, no white bread, no white flour....aside from sugar in the yogurts -- we have no added sugar to anything. Becks light beer or a glass of red wine on occasion.
14. How often do you go out to eat? Where do you go?
We used to go out several times a month. Carrabbas is one of our favorites, Outback, Bone fish Grill....all places we can still go if we stick to making better choice when we order.
15. What are your three favorite foods?
White chocolate mocha latte from Starbucks. Does that even count as a food? I order a tall skinny latte with splenda and a sprinkling of cocoa now.
Mexican: Anything and everything mexican. Enchilladas, tacos, nachos...you name it.
16. What are your three favorite restaurants?
Carrabbas, Outback, and Bonefish Grill
17. What are three things you can do differently when it comes to food?
Smaller portions, steam instead of saute, bake instead of fry.
18. If you woke up tomorrow and your body was exactly the way you want it, what would be different?
I'd be on the soccer field playing with my son, instead of watching from the sidelines. I wouldn't be taking ibuprofen morning and night because my back hurts.
19. Do you eat when you are not hungry?
Sometimes
20. Do you binge eat (large amounts at a time)?
I've been known to do this.
21. Do you hide your food or eat in secret?
I've been know to do this as well.
22. Do you eat when you are sad, nervous, or depressed?
Not so much.
23. Do you eat as a reward?
Unfortunately, I do.
24. Do you eat while watching TV or using the computer?
Nothing beats some desert in front of the television.
25. What do you normally eat for a meal?
Before: skip breakfast, fried chcken for lunch, take out for dinner. Couple of glass of wine.
Now: Oatmeal or eggs for breakfast. WW toast.
Lunch - turkey in a light wrap with cucumber and tomato salad.
Dinner - Fish, fresh steamed veggies, occasional baked sweet potato.
26. What type of snacks do you eat?
We snack on yogurt, fresh fruit, low fat cheese, nuts, power bars sometimes or low cal low fat protein shakes after the gym.
27. In terms of exercise, what, if anything, are you currently doing?
We go to the gym 4-6 times a week. We're doing 30 minutes of cardio each time. Either the elliptical, the treadmil on high incline or the stair stepper. We're also strength training working arms, legs and ab on different days in rotation.
28. Where do you go for exercise? A local public gym? School/work gym? Home?
A local gym.
29. What, if anything, are your three favorite types of exercise?
I adore the treadmill on a massive incline -- feeling like Im climbing. I also enjoy the strength training for my legs. I have naturally very strong , muscular legs os getting those back into shape is something I look forward too. Swimming in the summer is great, playing tennis and racket ball, biking. I like all of those.
30. What is your daily/weekly/monthly/yearly motivation to move towards your goals?
Daily: To make the choice I know I need to make. The ones that are going to have me feeling good about myself at the end of the day.
Weekly: To be a good motivator for my girlfriend. Not be too disappointed if the scale hasn't changed as much as I would like.
Monthly: To hang in there. To take photos once each month to compare. Even if the numbers on the scale aren't changing I can see the difference in the photos and the way my clothes fit.
Yearly: To keep off the weight I intend to lose over the next 6 months or so. To be a better influence on my son and his eating habits.
31. Do you have rewards for certain goals?
Not yet. I'm all about rewards though. I'm sure I'll come up with something. I've had my eye on a cute workout set.
