I have never really kept a diary or journal my entire life but after seeing how supportive everyone here is I see that it can be a helpful tool. I just joined the forum 2 weeks ago and introduced myself briefly in the newcomers section a few days ago but for those of you who haven't seen it here it goes again.

I am 23, 5'9'', 163 lbs and have some body image issues. I am not actually overweight but I just feel that I would be much happier and confident if I toned up my body. I have been an athlete my entire life until about 2 years ago when I left college and moved on to the real world. Since then I gained 28 lbs. I know it doesn't seem like much but when I saw the scale hit 168 I nearly died. I didn't even realize that I had been gaining so much weight. It kinda just snuck up on me! Anyways.. It was just 2 weeks ago when I saw the scale hit 168 and decided that I had to do something about it so I joined this forum. I have been limiting my calories to around 1500 by eating healthy and only drinking water. I have also been hitting the gym 5-6 days a week for at least 45 minutes. (30 min cardio and weights or a 1 hour class. I also have discovered that I love to sit in the sauna!

Just wanted to start this diary to hold myself accountable and because I love reading everyone elses so much! I have lost about 6 lbs so far and can already tell a major difference in not only my body but my energy level and the way I feel. I posted some bathing suit pics of my 5 lb loss and I hope that when I go on my vacation over Memorial day that it fits even better!
 
Journal day 1

Wakeup: 9:45am

Breakfast- 3/4 cup frosted flakes (110 calories)
1 cup strawberries (75 calories)

Snack-Goldfish (250 Cals)

GYM- 35 minutes on eliptical (-320 cals), crunches and 10 minutes in Sauna. No weights today but I did help my mom move a bunch of boxes and cleaned house!

Lunch- One bowl of veggies and grilled chicken (estimating 300 cals)
Bowl includes:
Sugar snap peas
Carrots
Green Beans
1/2 Grilled chicken breast

Snack- Jello cup (70 calories)
4 snack wells devils food cake cookies (200 calories)

Dinner- 2/3 cup whole wheat pasta with 1 tablespoon of parsley butter (250
calories)

Snack- pack of Welches fruitsnacks (70 cals)
2 more cookies (100 cals)

Total- 1425 calories eaten

Looks like we are on a team for the new challenge. I was just seeing who my teamies were and looking for journals to see who everyone is. Also, looks like according to our tracker we are in about same place on our journey BMI wise and such. Take care
 
Day 2 journal

I feel so good today. I am really starting to notice a change in my energy level and my stamina! I am working out with 2 girls from work now so it is more fun and i am really starting to enjoy going to the gym again. Today I took a step aerobics class with abs and had enough energy left over that I could have taken the class after it too! I used to not even make it through one class. When i got home I ate dinner and then did some cardio tennis with my boyfriend. It was fun! I think I need some new shoes though because my feet hurt!

Wakeup: 8am

Breakfast: 3/4 cup frosted flakes with fat free milk (110 calories)

Lunch: 1/2 roasted turkey sandwich on a rosemary cibata and a cup of
chicken noodle soup (Estimated 450 calories)
Desert: 1 chocolate cookie (50 cals)

GYM- 1 hour step aerobics plus abs class (estimated -400 cals)

Dinner: chicken terriyaki with white rice (Estimated 500 calories)

WORKOUT- 45 minutes cardio tennis (estimated -150 cals)

Snack: goldfish (100 calories)
jello cup (70 cals)

Total- 1280/1500 eaten

Thanks! I am really starting to enjoy the healthier food.. I don't crave the junk like I used to and I am really starting to get into working out. Hopefully I can make it a lifestyle!
 
So it's about 3:45 pm and I am not feeling as good as usual. I had today off and I started out the day by sleeping until 11! It felt great but now my body is sooo sluggish. I don't feel like doing anything. My eating is still on track and I just went to the store to stock up on some healthy foods. There is a yoga class that starts in about 45 minutes.. I am still debating whether or not i should take it. I just want to go take a nap! I have never done yoga though and think I might like it. After the class my friend is going to meet me at the gym for either a 1 hour step class or just some regular cardio and ab workouts. Yet to be determined as well! anyways.. as for the food intake so far here it goes

Wakeup: 11am

Breakfast: None :( I slept too late and I can really feel a difference

Lunch: ham and cheese sandwich on whole wheat (270 calories)
goldfish crackers (100 calories)
chocolate cookie (50 calories)

Snack: chocolate cookie (50 calories)
fruit snacks (70 calories)

GYM: 1 hour yoga class (-100 calories??)
30 minutes eliptical (-280 calories)
arm weights

Dinner: chicken breast (200 cals)
steamed veggies (250 cals)

Snack: cookies (100 calories)
goldfish (100 calories)

Snack: 1 cup strawberries (100 calories)

Totals: 1290/1500 calories eaten

I am a very hard person to get motivated to exercise as the day goes on, which is why Im tryin to create the habit of gettin up in the AM first thing. I have said it many times, that I think its harder to get going (exercise) than actually doing the exercise.

I have not tried YOGA yet- tho I would like to, maybe in the summer when my schedule is not so hectic. If you give it a whirl, be sure to let us know how it went!
 
Day 4 journal

I am feeling pretty good again today but mad that my internet isn't working at home! My muscles are a little stiff today but i am really starting to see a change in my body so I am going to push through it and keep going to the gym everyday. My boyfriend, who might I add is 6'3'' 155 lbs, mentioned going jogging together during the week. He is so lazy! I am excited that he wants to start exercising even though he doesn't need to at all. It wouldn't hurt him to gain about 20 lbs. Hopefully he sticks to it this time and I have a partner! I have really been craving chocolate this week. I think its that TOM.. At least I am fitting it into my calories though :)

Lunch: leftovers from dinner last night
chicken with steamed veggies (400 calories)
desert: brownie pack (100 calories)

GYM: 1 hour body works plus abs class (-450 calories)

Day 5 journal

So I woke up at 9am today and could barely move! I was soooo sore from that workout yesterday!! I decided that the only way to make my muscles relax was to work out so more (without weights this time!) so I went to the cardio kickbox class at the gym at 9:45. It was pretty intense but I feel 100% better now that I am home. not sore at all.. just worn out! I have a test today at school but when I get back home if I am feeling ok I am going to meet my friend at the gym for another round!

GYM: 1 hour cardio kickboxing (-400 calories)

I am sooo sore today still. It is worse today than yesterday. Hopefully it goes away soon. I am excited that it is Friday! Time is really flying by!

hey there, maybe a day of just walking will help loosen muscles and give your body a chance to rest. you always need at least a day off during the week!
 
If you havent execised that hard in a while, you certainly will feel for the next day or 2. I have heard the 2nd day is always the worst . . so hopefully it will start getting better for ya. AND . . if you work out routinely, you shouldnt get those sorta pains again.

I am hoping today is the worst.. I can barely lift my arms!! I am hoping to go back tomorrow but we will see. I am helping my mom have a garage sale this weekend!
 
So I woke up early this morning to go to my moms house to help with the estate sale. What a mess! Having one of those is harder than you can imagine. There were people all over the house!Anyways.. I didn't have time for breakfast today because I ran out the door half asleep.

So its 11pm now and I feel like crap for eating so badly today. I haven't eaten junk in weeks but today I wasn't at home at all and just ate what was available. They say it is good to have a cheat day every once in awhile to keep your metabolism guessing. Wonder if I over did it!!

Uggg . . I myself recently lost my mom & dad, and we just established the estate for my mom to settled her debts. We still have yet to deal with the house, I can't imagine it being any fun.

I think all in all, you didnt do too badly. You prob got burned a few calories running around there too.
 
Today has been crazy... Another day like yesterday but worse! Went to work at the estate sale again today but remembered to pack some goldfish and granola bars this time. I don't like not having a set schedule to eat on and no exercise! It is also that TOM so I am dead tired and moody on top of all this work!
