Chocolate Lovers Diary

Well, here it goes! I am very excited about this new endeavor. I am very open to hear everything you all have to say and look forward to my progress that I know I will make because I am very motivated!! Just a couple of things about me and this journal before I get started. I am living at home for the next month and work at an office where I sit at a computer all day. I dont get any excerzice besides walking the stairs until i get home at night and go to the gym. There is a lot of food (junk food) at my office that I am tryig hard to stay away from. I have a feeling that a lot of this journal is going to be on my mentality but who knows. Okay, here it goes! I am going to be as detailed as possibly so bare (spelling?) with me

Today:
WOke up at 7am. Left the house and got to work at 8:20.

8:20 - Coffee/water
10:00 - cheerios with 2% milk (only milk at work)
10:15 - mint

(Its 11:30 now)

Thats all so far...I have a sandwhich ready for lunch but dont know what else to have. I worry because I know I should eat but I dont do anything all day so I feel that I shouldnt eat! THen when I get bored I usually eat junk food...

Welcome to the forum. Good snacks are usually pretzels, peanuts, cheese, apples, etc...

Good sandwiches would be tuna/chicken salad. Try to stay away from the cold cuts. You could also have a salad w/light or no fat dressing for lunchs.

If you are strapped for time, you could have a protein shake.

I am never strapped for time. Actually, i have too much time to think about food. Sometimes I have prezels, or other snacks but how much should i have? LIke i said before, I just sit all day at a desk so eating anything makes me feel huge...

SO I just had a handful of peanuts. and now I am having rasberry green tea.
I am scared that I will give in to those peanut butter m&ms soon...

Just don't stuff yourself and wait to see what the other ones will say. Office jobs are hard ones to have. All you do is sit and sit and sit. You can conquer this, just give it time.

I used to be a sucker for the combo of peanut butter m&m's and chocolate milk. You just gotta stop buying them. If they are in front of you, you will be tempted

hey navygrl, I love chocolate as much as you do TRUST ME lol. It will take time to get over it. Get dark chocolate and have that instead, have a little bit each day and start to wean yourself off of it, it worked wonders for me, now I dont crave it. can you move the m m's to a place you cant see them? When my coworkers bring junk to the job I usually cover it with a paper towel, or put it in the closet... out of sight out of mind ya know? bring yourself some fruit, or baby carrots to munch on, or a bag of almonds. heck even dry granola cereal is good too. hang in there!!

The whole "out of site out of mind" idea is great and works wonders when I am at home and dont have those junk food items, its the workplace that causes problems. I cant hide the m&ms or any other item of junk food because there is tons of it and it all sits on shelves in the kitchen. So everytime I go in there to do anything (eat, get water, get cleaning spray) its right there. I am going to start bringing cut up apples and other fruit to quench my quick fixes. That sounds good to me... I did pretty well today though! after 11:30...

11:30: handful of peanuts and resberry green tea
1 - turkey sandwhich with mayo, pretzels and an apple

After my drive home I am going to do cardio for 45 minutes and abs.

did you leave the chocolate at home? and just a little bit/night? I dont think I could do that. In fact, haha I know I would eat the whole thing before i gave myself a chance to stop. Thats how I eat so much of it, I just eat it fast so I cant stop and think about it lol. sad huh? I am working on eating everything slower and giving myself a chance to think before I eat!

That is definatly what you should do. Try doing something else while you eat, type at the computer, read a book, do something that requires use of your hands too, so you are forced to eat slow. as far as the chocolate goes, i break off a piece of what im allowed to eat that day and put the rest away where I cant see it. My willpower has gotten ALOT better, you just have to set limits for yourself and stick to them. hang in there you can do it!!

I'll buy the little dove dark chocolate squares, and then when I eat them, let it melt in my mouth instead of chewing it. Lasts a lot longer that way, and I end up only having one or two then. Just a thought, you could try it and see if it works for you.

So I did really well the rest of the day yesterday and felt full all day and healthy when i went to bed. I got home from work and worked out with 45 cardio ( half run/half bike) and then did some core work for a few minutes. Came back home and had salmon and asparagus, then for desert had a bowl of melon squares...yum! THis morning I weighed in at 132.8!!!! I am not holding my breath though because I think my scale is a little pyscho sometimes =). Today, so far, is going well.

7:30 - 2 eggs
8:30 coffee

ANd i have a turkey sandwhich, yogurt and orange in the fridge for lunch/snack.

btw, I dont think I am ready yet to have any sor to of chocolate in my house (even though the dove square thing sounds like a good idea). just not yet...

Hey, just reading your journal here, sounds like you need to eat breakfast.

in fact you need to start making that a habit asap.

Eat breakfast.. something that has substantial carbs in it and also a form of protein along with it...

Now don't freak out, because then 2 -3 hours later.. you WILL be hungry again and then it is time to eat again then 2-3 hours later same thing..then the chocolate state of mind will disappear substantially .... you won't have to have the sweets..becuase you blood sugar will be on a level instead of a spike. That is what all sugar does in your system..You are not hungry becuase its what everyone else does, or because it is 'time' for lunch....it has to do with your chemical level in your entire body...its not just a 'stomach' feeling its is about your blood sugar.

If you keep it on a level you will have control of your hunger and you won't feel all tired and weak all the tiem... also you won't get all depressed all the time if you chemicals are balanced out in your system and of course the entire process requires nutrition first and foremost.

Think of the chocolate and sweets and junk food as ploys of the industry ;) like I do heheheh....I am a bigtime rebel ! So if I tell myself that this crap would be insane to actually eat regularly, they shouldn't make it look like everyone eats this stuff on a daily basis because its making people think its okay to just snack on this horrible stuff all day and night..it is crazy...reall.y..

Just don't eat it if you're hungry heck no! If you're hungry eat FOOD, the sweets are treats for here and there occasions or whatnot..its not a food group or a nutrition source so if you want to be healthy then stop kidding yourself with all the junk food.

Tough love for ya!

SO here's my thought process and mental feelings in the morning...I used to and of course I would still do it, eat cereal, oatmeal (my favorite), or some other carb intake in the morning except recently I realized that soon after eating a bunch of carbs I would feel really bloated and overfull. It felt like my whole stomach expanded 5 inches. I just didn't like what it made me feel like. (these are usualy just morning feelings/inactivity feelings from carbs) The other problem is that I would mentally find it easy to get back into that due to the health benefits if I was more active during the day and after breakfast. Right now I have a desk job where I barely move from 8-5 so it just feels like that bowl-o-carbs just sits there...know what I mean?

Today:

7:30 two eggs
8:30 coffee
10:30 - handfull of peanuts
11 - orange
12 - rasberry green tea
1 - turkey sandwhich, and lowfat yogurt
(its 2 pm now)

Going out for dinner tonight. Probably going to have a chinese chicken salad. Is that really fatening?

Are you sure you're getting adequate calories to support your workout program?

No, I really dont know. I feel full, so I stop eating...thats what happens when I eat slower. I feel energized when I work out though.

I feel energized when I work out though.

That's a good way to feel. You really should check on your calories like Stingo said.
