Who gets adjusted regularly? I'm wondering if this is something I should add to my life. lol. My entire right side feels constantly out of whack and it is the primary side to get injured too from my shin splints up to my shoulder. When I stand straight my right shoulder is sloped lower than my left

Any thoughts?

oh boy, I really looked into this after my skydiving injury. this is a very hot topic. Not as hot as rubbin yer butt, butt, I mean but, it is a hot topic. :luxlove:

being a naturalist, much like you, I chose NOT to let the 'chiroprator cycle' a chance to take seed in my life- yet.

my view is undecided.

As a naturalist then you would know that the chiropractic field falls into the homeopathic realm of medicine.

Honestly if you can find a good one, then I would say do it. You dont have to go every week or anything, if you're in proper alignment then you only go once every 3-6 months. Plus chiropractic sessions are inexpensive.

I have a family friend who is the only person I deal with. I usually go as mentioned above. However we take my son whenever he gets sick.

As a scientist, I used to trust only standard medical care, but I am now a believer that chiropractic can solve a lot of joint pain problems. But, chiropractic, like all treatments, has its limitations.

By the way, my neighbor was the one who initially convinced me to give chiropractic a try and he is a traditional physician.

A really good chiropractor is a GOD! I injured my back years ago and was lucky enough to know a chiropractor named Dr. Lenny Stein. He has been the chiropractor for the SF 49ers, the SF Ballet, Martina Navratilova, and Andre Agassi to name a few. He was AMAZING! I wish I still knew him, he will always rank as GOD in my book! :D

Cheers,
Diane

Ok well i dont have time to go into much (ive already had lengthy debates on this topic in other forums).

Firstly, does anyone even know the whole rationale of chiropractors i.e claiming pain is a direct result of blocked energy, similar to "chi" in acupuncture. Theres no evidence what so ever of thsi mysterious energy.

What they tend to do is get you to have at least 6 sessions (buy one get 4 free etc), claim to fix you and what really happens is time has fixed, not them.

They do more damage than anything, you should see what their insurance is like, they get sued all there time. I wouldnt want some idiot messing with my spinal cord. Maybe at best they release analgesics or pain reducing hormones, but at least 99% of cases the dont fix the underlying cause of the problem.

I have been to many and have never heard them claim something like that.

Also never an experience I have had with a chiropractor.

My advice to the OP is to listen to people who have actually had experience with chiropractors.

A good chiropractor will be able to see imbalances in your spine as well as in your shoulders hips and other jounts.

A good chiropractor will be able to tell you what muscles need to be strengthened and what needs to be stretched.

A good chiropractor will then be able to give you input on exercises to stretch and strengthen what needs to be stretched or strengthened.

Like g8r80 said. There are limitations, like anything else. The right chiropractor can be very beneficial.

Like other professions. There are a lot of idiots out there. (just like personal training, physical therapy, general practitioners, etc.) So you may have to shop around a bit to find someone good. (just like personal training, physical therapy, general practitioners, etc.)

I find chiropractors can really help a LOT with injury prevention. A good one will catch little things happening and have solutions way before they become problems.

tonymcclellan stated that chiropractors are inexpensive. I agree. There is a huge benefit for the cost.

If you find a good combination chiropractor / massage therapist life is great. Especially if you get them to communicate well with each other.

Ive never had anyone mess with my spinal cord. Sounds like either in your country or your experience there are crappy practitioners.

Like Georgen said, Ive never had any of those experiences you've claimed. The guy I go to has never mentioned chi, and was upset that his profession falls under homeopathic medicine because it takes away from its credibility.

Then why even post.

You are misinformed.

What they tend to do is get you to have at least 6 sessions (buy one get 4 free etc), claim to fix you and what really happens is time has fixed, not them.

there was no such "deal" with my chiropractor. I went in twice.

He did no damage. In fact he helped me more than some conventional doctors did. I went from not being able to move without pain, to pain free instantly. He took his time to study what was wrong, see how out of alignment my back was, then he fixed it painlessly.

If you have a GOOD chiropractor, he is worth his weight in gold.....

I see a chiropractor. I had messed up posture. Hunched and round shoulders, one leg longer than the other, spine was not very straight due to bad posture, back pain (when I am in one spot for a certain amount of time and I cannot stand up very long without an ache). It took me 4 sessions before figuring out what my bad habit posture was and changing it into a good posture after I was adjusted and keep it, especially the one leg longer than the other. Chiropractor will adjust you, but it is temporary. You cannot get adjusted and expect to do the same things you were doing before your adjustments. You gotta get out of the bad habit and into the good habit. I don't have one leg longer than the other anymore. After the 4th session, it changed from every 2-3 weeks to 2 months later. Now after the 5th because everything went well, I don't have to go for another 3 months unless something happens and I need to go earlier than that.

The only problem I mainly have everytime I see the chiropractor is the tight upper trapz/levator scap.

On the other hand, see a chiropractor that knows full body adjustments and make sure you know people that have seen the chiropractor you are wanting to see and get feedback on that person. The first chiropractor I saw was by my area and he was horible. Only knew hardly any moves and I was not getting better at all after 1 week and he wanted me to go 3 times a week and claimed I had scoiloisis, which I do not. If I had it, my chiropractor I see now would of told me. Be aware that some chiropractors just want money. Ones that just want money want you to go every single week, you hardly get better after a few sessions, etc. After the first session, all the pains should be gone unless its something that takes more than one time to fix. Once your posture is fixed, figure out how to keep it!

AND PLEASE DO NOT BE A STOMACH SLEEPER! YOU WILL GO OUT OF PLACE! (COMING FROM EXPERIENCE) This is why it took me like 3-4 sessions to keep my adjustments because I was a stomach sleeper. I am a side sleeper now and I sleep with a stuff animal between my knees at night or pillow to keep my spine straight at night. I also have a side sleeping pillow for my neck to be in proper alignment. Eversince I started sleeping on my side, I had nothing go out of place yet.

The hardest muscle is the upper trapz/levator scap because we use it every day 24/7.

the good news is that Matt has already sucked up every ohm of negative energy available.

:yelrotflmao:

yep i said it.

hehehehehe

Wow, thanks for the responses. I have seen a chiro once and it was a few weeks after I had my 2nd baby. I couldn't even hold his carrier without HORRIBLE pain. I couldn't breathe without pain with each breath and I was constantly nauseous. SO I went.

I was brought up by parents who thought chiros were evil. haha. They said they basically want money at any cost and I was told that once I went I'd never be able to STOP going because I would depend on it. So to go was hard for me. That ONE session fixed me completely and I've never had to go for anything else.

I KNOW what I'm dealing with now is not going to "heal" itself. I have constant pain/discomfort in my back. It hurts more when I run and after my run (like now after that longer run yesterday) my shoulder, hip, knee and shin ALL hurt on that one friggen side. I had trouble sleeping last night because I couldn't get comfortable turning my neck (I'm a back sleeper but I turn my head left to put my ear on the pillow). My neck/shoulder on the left side was all screwy. When I had shin pain and hip pain before from running my friends constantly told me to go to the chiro before going through physical therapy. I've also heard of chiros being responsible for healing other ailments like even "allergies", food intolerances and other sickness.

Anyway, all of that is to say, its not a matter of if, its kinda of a matter of when. I'm going to my GP tomorrow (stomach issue follow up) and while there I'll see if my insurance will cover anything of the sort since its related to other things i've been seen for. If not, it really is pretty inexpensive compared to most things medically related.

I know of a few around here hailed by friends. I'd like someone who deals with sports injuries, obviously. Thanks everyone for the time you took to post.

People should look up illusionary correlation.

The thing with chiros, they are expanding into other domains like phsyiotherapy because they know they're quacks and are trying to look more professional.

heres a good article that you sould read

The guy I go to adjusts his kids whenever they get sick, and they are then quickly healed. Most of his friends and neighbors take their children to him as well.

There is a major difference I think between chiropractors and therapeutic touch practitioners. TT is absolutely lame.

However that article talks about meditation as being stupid. I wonder how the Buddhists and such would feel about that.

My experience with a chiro was bad, so I have no plan on returning to one. I may just have had one of the bad ones, but I hurt my back in my senior year of high school and for some reason I ended up at the chiro. I went twice. Each time I left my back was just as bad as when I originally injured it. Then I finally went to a doctor. It took 3 months of rest to heal, but I prolonged the start of the healing process.

Well it took 3 months to heal, but you expected instant gratification from a chiropractor? Thats how you judge your experience with one?
