Chewing, not Swallowing

Hey everyone

So today i went and ate some bacon rashers and realised i didnt want them, and then spat them out (lovely!) but then afterwards i felt full and it got me to thinking, by chewing or sucking something without actually eating it there are no calories in it, (other than flavourings) so ive tried it with a few other things and its worked great! Its totally filling a craving without actually doing much harm.

Now im not saying that everyone should stop eating and just suck or chew their food, obviously thats not good for you at all and i wouldnt do that, im still eating 3 meals a day its only snacks and unhealthy options im doing this for.

What are your experiences with this? x

You will still get calories this way. Obviously not as many as actually eating the whole food, but you will still extract calories by chewing. It would be very difficult not to swallow some particles of food. Also, there are enzymes in your saliva that start to break food down in your mouth.

I didn't think too much of this other than it would be expensive and gross (sorry, not meaning it as an insult). However, I started to do some research... There really isn't a lot of great information that I came across, but there were some forums with other people's experiences with doing this and it didn't sound pretty. (Here's one example: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Eating-Disorders/Can-you-lose-weight-by-chewing-and-spitting-out-food/show/494883) Based on what others experienced, it seems that there are quite a few potential side effects from doing this consistently, such as acid reflux, heartburn, swollen glands, etc.

It also seems that habits like this can lead to a very slippery slope and in many people, can lead to a full-blown eating disorder. In fact, chewing but not swallowing food IS classified as an eating disorder (http://www.nedic.ca/knowthefacts/definitions.shtml classified as Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified, or ED-NOS). Not to say that this is where you are right now, but all eating disorders start off as a small habit that gradually morphs into something serious.

I wouldn't recommend getting into this habit. It would be better for you to allow yourself the occasional "treat" and not develop a negative eating habit.

The juices are the most acidic part so you're not being as healthy. If a person just cuts out that which is bad, like red meat and refined sugars they just won't have to worry.
