cheating to lose...

I'd love to hear everyone's opinion on the whole cheat meal theory! i've heard so many different ideas and i'm very curious about this topic. i've heard that it's helpful to cheat once a week to jump start your metabolism and help with fat loss, but i don't know what to believe anymore! i'd love to hear about your own personal experiences if you'd be willing to share. With my own experience, for about a year i've eaten totally clean all week and then on sundays i'd have a cheat day where i'd eat incredibly too much- complete crap all day. of course it tasted really good going down, then the next day i'd feel disgusting. i never gained weight from it though...which i don't understand b/c i know i was taking in more calories than i was expending. But, for the past few weeks i've still been eating clean all week, and i've gotten control of my binge sessions on sundays by just eating bad during one meal. since this change, i've not lost any more weight even though i'm not consuming so much....which i also don't understand. please, i'd love any feedback on this issue! i can't possibly continue eating clean 24/7 without some sort of cheat!

Having a cheat meal is the best way to stay true to your diet :)

And you're possibly going into starvation mode, if you havn't lost any weight since you made that change. Do you exercise? Maybe pump it up some, and try upping your calorie intake. :)

Cheers:)

My theory on cheat meals is if you create a 5000 calorie defecit throughout the week, and eat 1000 more calories on a cheat day, your still down a pound of calories, which is progress. Also the cheat meal keeps your body guessing. Routine can ruin your efforts.

Aevans ya know how easter is coming up lol well anyways this sat. I was thinking about this....Could i just chow down on a whole bunch of cookies and SNICKER EASTER EGGS without gaining. ALso you know me i would run a lot that day because of it but still what do you think?

I'm a big fan of cheat meals/days for physical and psychological reasons. Physically they help keep your metabolism from slowing down. Mentally they help keep you sane and give you a reward.

My feelings exactly...this is such a hard time of year for me, all I see is Easter candy dammit...haven't touched any though but I do find myself glaring at the Reece's peanut butter eggs...and the peeps...and the jelly beans...and the chocolate covered marshmallows...I better stop and go eat some cottage cheese :p

woah those words are forbidden around here! lol

One day a week - on the weekend - I'll eat the way I want to, which usually means larger portions. Other than that I don't like to toe the line.

Eating all that sugar will most likely put on fat, simple sugars turn to fat very easily, I wouldn't chow down on em, but one or two wouldn't hurt.

its important to be healthy but still live life. i started my cut saturday and last night we were invited to go eat out so we went. what was i gonna say, no thanks i'm cutting :D

a big meal, couple of drinks, around friends and family, had a great time. woke up 4am this morning, lifted and got back on my plan. ;)

what my wife and i try to do is eat something we really like - say sushi or some other restaurant food, rather than chowing down on candy or other sweet stuff.
