Chazz's weightloss journal

I wouldnt tend to take your calories as low as that...

What do you mean when you say that a bodybug says that you burn that amount of calories a day?

I calculate your BMR to be a lot more than that.

http://www.fitness.com/tools/bmr/

Since the BMR is what you burn just by being alive - and since you are not in a coma and walking about (and thus burning more calories) and probably doing some form of exercise (and burning more) - you probably wanting to be eating a fair bit more than you are.

If you cut your calories too low - your metabolism will get very confused (think that there is a famine and try to adjust things so that you do not burn as many calories as you would otherwise), things like muscle can get eroded which is very bad news since it is not just the muscles that you see on bodybuilders but also things like the heart is a muscle plus people get to feel deprived and come very close to abandoning the whole notion.

Read up the exercise and nutrition sections of the forum.

Most people will lose weight on between 8 and 12 multiplied by their weight in pounds (depending on how much exercise they do). If you do a reasonable amount of exercise - multiply by 12 - else try multiplying by 10.

Measure your calories accurately using a tool like www.fitday.com.

Try to incorporate some form of exercise - I started with walking.

If you dont lose some weight after a couple of weeks of trying say 10 times - multiply by 9 instead and see where that gets you...

You are better off in the long run finding a nice decent sized level of calories where you lose weight nicely. If you set your calories too low you lose options for altering things if your weight loss grinds to a halt down the track.

I got to goal at the end of a long project eating between 1400 and 1700 calories a day and losing weight while only being 126 pounds and 5ft3 in height.

The level at which you lose weight has a direct bearing on your metabolism and the level at which you have to eat for ever into the future after you get to goal - and you do not want to end up having to feel deprived for the rest of your life...
