Today I embark officially on my weight loss journey.

=== Starting Stats ===
Age: 17
Height: 6' 1"
Weight: 215 lbs
BMI: 28.36
Goal Weight: 180 lbs

In the past week, I have averaged 1600 calories per day. My goal is for about 1500 calories per day, but I find it very difficult to feel satisfied throughout the day before I already blow my limit.

I say today is my first official day because I finally bought a scale and I actually know my starting weight, however I have been eating better and running (for 20-30 mins every day) for the past week.

Today I am going to try to run for 35-40 minutes. I just ate a banana and drank some coffee (I read that caffeine can help with fat burning).

A couple questions.

#1 Is the breakfast I had today sustainable for a morning workout and/or appropriate?

#2 Do I have a reasonable expectation for the amount of calories I should be consuming per day.

#3. Do you have any advise on how I can reach my goal?

Welcome to the forum!

1. I think what you ate for breakfast is fine. I frequently do morning workouts without eating any breakfast at all. If you start feeling like it's not working, you can always eat a little more for that meal.

2. I think 1500 to 1600 is a little low for you. You're both tall and young and you do at least some exercise. Your TDEE is probably somewhere between 2400 and 2800, depending on how active you are during the day. At 1500 calories, assuming that you do basically no exercise at all, you'll be losing 2 lb's a week or so. That's about the most a doctor would recommend you lose in that time frame. 1500 probably won't hurt you long-term, but you might find it difficult to keep your intake that low.

3. My biggest advice is to be honest about what and how much you are eating. A lot of people fail because they severely underestimate portion size or forget to log something.

I agree with logging your food - a lot of us use my fitness pal to make sure we are eating the right amount of calories. The app will tell you what you should be aiming for calorie wise as well :)
