Cellerystick's weight loss diary

I stumbled upon this part of the forum and figured I'd make my own diary to keep track of everything.

Hi to anyone that happens to read this. My name's Jessie (female) and I'm a vegetarian in the process of losing weight. The vegetarian bit isn't overly important but I've found it a little tricky to get use to creating a weight loss plan that fits my vegetarian lifestyle, as I've always had to lose weight as a omnivore. It's not that big of a change, I know, but it's a bit harder to make sure that I get all the proper nutrition. It doesn't help that I'm new to vegetarianism. So, I'm still getting the hang of things.

Basically, I'm just striving to get healthier and hopefully that'll help my overall happiness.

I don't have much time now as I have to leave in an hour (of course I'm on the computer rather than getting ready) but I'll post a bit more later on sometime.

You know you've had a long weekend when you look forward to the start of the week!

Anyways, I had a really good weekend food wise. I didn't eat much that I'd consider bad, so that's always good.

Saturday

Breakfast: A packet of oatmeal, a slice of whole wheat bread with strawberry jam and quite a bit of cantaloupe (possibly too much, if you could believe that)

Lunch: Some triscuits (crackers), celery (this just made me realize that my username is spelled wrong! :smilielol5: ) and cucumber with dressing.

Snack: A banana and a handful of durritos

Dinner: 2 vegetarian hot dogs wrapped in croissants with cheese and french fries.

Sunday

Breakfast: 2 slices of whole wheat toast with strawberry jam and cantaloupe slices.

Lunch: Triscuits and cheese with cucumber slices and dressing

Dinner: 2 veggie hamburgers on whole wheat buns with onion, tomato, etc. Then a large caesar salad.

Snack: a snack size chocolate bar.

So, not too bad of a weekend. Hopefully it'll show tomorrow morning when I weigh myself.

I think I'll try and keep track of what I eat each day here. That way, if I eat something bad, I'll feel bad because I'll post it here. A bit of reinforcement to keep me away from the pantry. All those snack type foods are calling my name right about now.

I'm so embarrassed for spelling my username wrong. :smilielol5::smilielol5: Shows how great my spelling is. It's definitely enviable.

Today

Breakfast: Crackers with peanut butter and banana slices with a couple handfuls of dried berries

Lunch: A vegetarian bean burrito and a bowl of garden salad with dressing

Snack: A snack sized chocolate bars

Dinner: A vegetable and cheese mix in a tortilla

Snack: A snack sized chocolate bar and a snack size container of pringles

I found a bunch of different veggie products while I was out shopping today. The vegetarian burrito I had today was one of them. I believe the brand is called Amy's and they're premade frozen burritos. The one I had today was pretty good. Not to mention it was filling, which is always good. I think I'll find a recipe to make my own homemade burritos though instead of continuing to buy them premade.

I also found some mock chicken nuggets that look good. They might not be overly healthy, but I don't think they'd be that bad.

What's the substitute for the chicken in the mock chicken nuggets? Either way it's probably closer to real food than the real chicken nuggets anyways :)

Hi there,
I was raised a vegetarian, although my family started eating fish when I was about 13. I think being vegetarian encourages you to be healthy because you are always looking for alternatives - I have tried every kind of fruit and veg in my local supermarket! Have you tried beans and lentils? They are great in curries, stews and salads etc - great healthy source of protein :) I love red kidney beans with avocado and salad - delicious...

Best of luck with your weightloss!

This is the ingredients list I found: water, wheat protein product, soy protein product, canola oil, wheat gluten, natural flavour, modified potato starch, egg albumen, modified cellulose, hydrolysed soy & corn protein, autolysed yeast extract, dextrose, salt, spices, vitamins & minerals (thiamine hydrochloride, riboflavin, niacinamide, pyridoxine hydrochloride, cyanocobalamin, calcium pantothenate, ferric orthophosphate, zinc oxide, dimagnesium phosphate, dipotassium phosphate

So, they're soy based. Anyways, I'm sure they're a bit healthier than the real thing yeah.

At least I hope so. :)

Are you still a vegetarian Isabel? I know you mentioned that you were raised as a vegetarian, but I'm just curious if you still are one. I agree as well. What I've found so far, is exactly what you said; I'm sort of forced into looking at more nutritional options. I've also found it a lot easier to incorporate veggies and fruits into my diet as I'm not eating a steak with potatoes and being left with no room for vegetables. I'm also more concerned about getting the proper nutrition which helps ensure that I eat those veggies and fruits. I've just found it all around easier to eat healthy as a vegetarian.

I haven't tried many beats or legumes yet, no. I'm still in the process of adapting my diet and experimenting with foods. So far, the only beans I've really been eating is canned brown beans in tomato sauce. I believe that there was black beans in the burrito I tried yesterday as well.

And red kidney beans with avocado? Do you mix the two together? I can't honestly say I've tried avocado but I've heard it's pretty good for you.

Good luck to you too. :)

I'm an omnivore so I don't think I have much good advice for you as a veghead :p

BUT I wish you all the support and I'll be cheering you forward like everyone else.

Hi, yeah I'm still a veggie. I've never really considered eating meat, though I do eat fish. I would really advise you to try as many fruits and veggies as you can get your hands on. One little treasure I can recommend is tinned water chestnuts - really low cal and taste a little like crunchy potatoes. Just chuck them in with some broth for a really tasty low cal soup...

Tinned water chestnuts? Can't say I've ever heard of them before. If they're potato like though, I'm sure I'd like them. Lol.

Thanks for the tip Isabel. I'll see if I can find the water chestnuts next time I'm out grocery shopping.

I love water chestnuts actually. It's my favorite part of stir-fry. They are crunchy and a faint sweet flavor. Wonderful stuff.

I was too tired last night to log on and post what I'd eaten, so I'll do it now. :)

Yesterday

Breakfast: A peanut butter and banana sandwich on whole grain bread with some cantaloupe

Lunch: Nacho chips with a little melted cheese on them and salsa along with a salad on the side and dressing

Snack: A piece of whole grain bread dipped in vegetarian chili and a piece of whole grain bread with margarine on it. A snack sized chocolate bar, and a handful of dried berry mix.

Dinner: 2 pieces of french bread and a bowl of vegetarian chili

As you can see, I went a little overboard yesterday. It was one of those days that I was just so hungry and I couldn't find anything to really put an end to the hunger. That's where the bread came into play. Obviously the whole wheat bread is nutritional and really not something I'd worry too much about, but the french bread was a no no. So, tomorrow really wasn't the best day.

I'm feeling pretty good this morning though. I have a busy day ahead of me, but it should be a good day non the less.

lol that isn't as bad as you think. honestly? I've seen and done a whole lot worse when I slip some. Don't let it hold you down.

I missed this. Are water chestnuts commonly found in stir-fries? I buy a lot of the pre-made vegetable stir-fry mixes, so I may have tried water chestnuts without even realizing it. I'll have to take a look at the ingredients next time I make a stir-fry and see.

Well, if it wasn't bad then, I made it worse yesterday. Lol. I had a bad day... which led to eating pizza at 9 at night.

So, I won't be posting what I ate yesterday. I'll just start fresh today.

Today

Breakfast: Peanut butter sandwich (I usually have banana slices on it, but we ran out of bananas) and cantaloupe

Lunch: Vegetarian chili and cheese in a whole wheat wrap along with a small bowl of tuscan bean soup

Snack: A snack sized container of pringles and a bowl of salad with dressing

Dinner: A small serving of fettuccine and 2 slices of garlic bread

Snack: A caramel chocolate chip rice cake

I was also able to exercise for 45 minutes today too, which was good. I usually don't get around to any specific exercise everyday but a couple days a week I usually get the chance to do a 30 minute or so session. I walk a lot during the week though, so I count that as my exercise for the day the majority of the time.

I have my volunteer job tomorrow morning bright an early. So, that'll burn a few calories. I might try and exercise a bit when I get home to. I think it'll all depend on my mood and how tired I am.

Today

Breakfast: Two slices of whole grain toast with peanut butter and a yogurt cup

Lunch: Tuscan bean soup and a whole grain wrap with vegetarian chili and cheese

Dinner: Vegetarian chicken nuggets, a couple french fries, a couple onion rings and a good size serving of mixed veggies.

As far as exercise goes, I exercised for about 25 minutes and I spent 3 or so hours at my volunteer job cleaning, walking around, being active, etc. So, I was pretty active today.

I had a headache the majority of the day though. Lol. So, I was a tad moody.
