Casey's Diary, Part Deux!

I had a can of Lentil soup! Yummy...

Dinner will be a six-inch veggie from Subway with some chips. Thinking about apples with peanut butter and carrots for snacks.

I loooove lentil soup... oh so yummy.. :)

If you can find it - or feel experimental in the kitchen - seeif you can find mulligatawny soup - it's an indian soup that's lentils and lemon juice and a bunch of spices the smell is absolutely intoxicating and wonderful :D

Sounds yummy! My grandparents got me a vegetarian cookbook for Christmas. I'd really like to make a few things in it soon. Lentils took some getting used to for me but I love them now. And they are packed with protein!

Lentils are also cheap. I love Mulligatawny soup but I thought it had chicken in it. If I could make it without that would be great.

Definitely eat more lentils!

Thanks for stopping by.

Yesterday was....decent.

Wheat eggos and soy milk for breakfast, lentils for lunch, and a foot long veggie sub without cheese and with baked chips after work. Around 10:30pm, my boyfriend asks, "Are you hungry?" I was starving. So we went to Walmart and got a frozen pizza and some ice cream.

The bad news:
-I ate half of the pizza, and it was loaded with cheese and grease
-I ate some ice cream, which isn't good for me
-Because I ate this stuff, I didn't eat the apples and peanut butter like I had planned

The good news:
-My cals for the day were pretty low so it didn't hurt me too bad
-The pizza didn't have meat on it
-I only had 2 or 3 spoonfuls of the ice cream instead of a whole bowl

I know these situations are gonna be tough to avoid, because I'm in college, and I stay up late, and I have a boyfriend who can eat whatever he wants and stays rail-thin. Fortunately I get plenty of exercise, which helps. I can also handle this better by eating 2 pieces of pizza instead of 4 and sampling the ice cream instead of having a bowl (which I did). As long as I'm eating healthy the rest of the time, I think it will be all right to have some pizza or ice cream every once in awhile.

I am not freaked out about what I ate last night, and I'm proud for that. I'm still eating much healthier than I was a few months ago. :)

no need to freak out or worry. all you have to do is make sure today is a bit more toward your liking. you are doing great with the exercise & I am impressed you are so dedicated. When I was in college (gawd it feels old to say things like that) I just lived in the minute & never thought much about the late night pizzas. You at least are aware. You are doing great so don't feel to bad about last night. Its the overall that matters not the single moments....& you are impressive overall! :D

You're right to be proud of you. The lack of freaking out means that you're learning to see food in the right way and you don't let it influence your mood anymore. This is a huge step forward. I'm happy for you!

Thanks Moon...I appreciate the kind words a lot. I am a pusher...I push myself so hard to eat right, make all A's, exercise, commit to my sorority, etc. Sometimes I forget to sit back and realize I'm doing fine.

I told my boyfriend last night that I could eat the pizza since my calories were low. He looked at me and asked, "When did you start counting calories?" I just said, "I always do. It's like an addiction. I do it without thinking." It's good that I care about what goes in my body, but at the same time, I just wish I didn't get so obsessive about it. Where is the happy medium? Will I ever find it?

Plan for the day:

Breakfast:
2 wheat eggos
1.5 cup choc. soymilk

Lunch:
1 pb sandwich on wheat
1 serving apple slices

Snack:
???

Dinner:
whole wheat spaghetti with spaghetti sauce and broccoli
baby carrots

I know I will need something to eat before my afternoon run, but I'm sort of clueless as to what to eat. Most of my food at home is soup, frozen fish and veggies, rice, etc. Not a lot of prepackaged stuff, which is good, but it makes quick snacks a challenge. I finished off my apples during lunch and all I have left are carrots....and I don't think those are quite enough to fuel a 3-mile run. There's a little convenience store downstairs, but those don't have much to offer me, either.

Thanks for keeping me positive about running!

The thought scares me, but I want to be able to run so badly!

Its like my own personal challege to myself...

You're welcome! I am the world's #1 running advocate...if I go without it too long I get so depressed. It's what keeps me sane. Running can be grueling and frustrating but if you keep working at it you will get SO MUCH out of it.

I like a snack of a plain rice cake spead with peanut butter and a banana and some skim milk.

Hope your run goes well!

I totally think running is great too. I get way down if I go without it for more than a couple of days. After a run I love the semi-tired, euphoric feeling I get, like a runner's high, and it's better than any drug I've ever tried. I totally agree exercise keeps me from getting too down too, which is easy to do with the gray disgusting weather we've been having here for awhile now.

Don't beat yourself up too much Case. I think we're a lot alike perhaps, you and me. We tend to focus on all the shit we need to do or we aren't doing but not what we've accomplished already.

Pizza and ice cream are probably my two foods that I have the hardest time with. They are my downfalls. They are so sinfully delicious and all the calorie counting and exercise seem to go out the window when they are around... I need to do just as you say, only have two pieces instead of 4 or more, lol.

Take Care,
Sam

Thanks Sammy.... :) Runner's high is incredible. I got my first big one at the half-marathon when I hit the 11-mile mark. I realized there were only 2 miles left and I was going to make it...that was also the point we re-entered downtown Memphis, where the big finish is. It was a truly incredible feeling. I just started pumping my legs faster and faster. I was probably going slower than I felt like I was, just because I was so fatigued by then. But it still felt great!

I ended up snacking on a Wendy's side salad one of my co-workers didn't eat. It was probably 250-300 calories, because I put Ranch dressing on it. It was basically lettuce, cheese, croutons, and dressing, but hey, at least it was Romaine lettuce. I can still have two servings of pasta, two servings of sauce and plenty of veggies at dinner and get in under 1700 cals.

Ok. Yesterday started out great. Ate healthily and ran a quick three miles. But then I was watching a TV show with my boyfriend and I got the ice cream bug....I just could not quit thinking about how much I wanted it! And I wasn't even hungry! There was some in my freezer from the other night....coffee ice cream with chocolate and brownie chunks in it. I had a BIG bowl of it. Oh, it was delicious. But this morning I'm bloated and gassy. Not good. I really don't think it was worth it.

Oh well, today I will hopefully get back on track and eat plenty of healthy stuff. I went to the store yesterday and got more fruit and salad stuff.

I agree with Mal, don't worry about the ice cream sometimes it just can't be avoided. The important thing is to get on track again right afterwards.
