Cardio....yas or no?

ok, this is probably like the most basic question u guys have answed but here goes. I recently read two books; "The truth about 6-pack abs"-Mike Geary, and "Turbulance Traning"- Craig Ballantyne. Both have very good chapters about nutrition and such but mostly agree on the fact that to lose fat u don't need to do cardio? Every thing here iv read u guys have been pusinh cardio every chance u get? Whos right!?

I haven't been "pushin" cardio, most guys around here aren't "pushin" cardio. Fat loss is about energy in and energy out. Cardio serves many purposes, one such is for a greater output of energy. Can you lose fat without it, yes. Can it help you lose fat easier with it, sometimes given the right program. The best of cardio for fat loss and to retain muscle tissues is HIIT. There is an entire section here devoted to it so read up is so desire.

if you are trying to loose weight, you can do it through diet, just diet, if you want and if you can. some people find it hard not eating a whole lot, then you can do cardio so you can eat more while still beeing at a calorie deflict.

when i start cutting, i probobly wont do cardio first, ill see how it goes with just cutting my food. I might do cardio, but simply because i want to get more running endurance or something like that.

The only time i have ever done cardio is at my college wellness class, and the only reason I did it then was because we had to :(. I understood cardio as necessary for loosing weight. I also understood it as helping with stamina and helping the heart withstand high bpm.

Should you do cardio while trying to gain weight?

some people do to offset the inevitable fat gains that bulking can cause. However, chances are you plan to cut following a bulking phase so, you may as well save the cardio for when you need it as I believe that too much cardio while bulking can hinder your progress (I'm sure someone will be along with the science of it eventually)

I must admit, I've never tried to drop fat without cardio, it seems like such a natural way of doing it. I spose I quite enjoy my cardio too so, I would probably be doing at least some even if I had no desire to cut.

Yorks...we already got the equation for it...

ABS - how to cook them -
IF
"calories in" = X
"calories out" = Y
"Stomach Definition" = "Abs" = Z

THEN
as long as X is less than Y, Z becomes the ultimate answer
OR
X < Y = Z

There is a 2nd solution for it as well.
Let "A" = Workout more
and "B" = quit your complaining
Then let "C" = better body

A + B = C

Meaning, quit your whining and go workout.

Excdr...honestly, I don't think there is a reason to cut out cardio completely, even when you are bulking. Think about it, if you aren't doing cardio, then your heart gets lazy and therefor isn't working as efficiently as it could. And, if it's not working as good as it can, then it wouldn't be delivering blood and nutrients to your hungry muscles as well as it could either.

I'm not saying that you need to do LOTS of cardio, but like 10-15 minutes of steady state cardio, just to keep your heart in good condition.

is this sarcasm? lol

the last part i would guess..

you guys just gotta understand cardio is a tool alot of people use to loose weight because it burns cals. look at this

Cals inn 3500
Cals out 3000

so you're gaining weight, but you want to loose weight. You could either ofcource just eat less, you could do alot more cardio, or eat a bit less and do more cardio (or other exersice ofcource)

Cals inn 3500
Cals out from just regular daily avtivity 3000
Cals used in cardio during the day 500

now you're at maintence, just an example. hope people get the point.

I do cardio once or twice a week. Doing cardio will burn the fat... and lose it. Doing light cardio will burn the fat, which you then turn to muscle. Doing too much will stop you bulking where you need to most.

You can not turn fat into muscle. It's a misleading statement. Muscle may "fill out" where fat used to be, but you can't change it to or from one to the other. Not meaning to be a prick...just want to keep people from getting the wrong idea.

Also, it's not necessarily about burning fat while doing cardio. CALORIC INTAKE VS. your body's CALORIC NEED is what determines how much extra ENERGY (if any) that your body will burn off. BUT, if you don't do resistance training, then your body will break down just as much muscle as it does fat to meet it's caloric needs.

When working out, remember that "IF YOU DON'T USE IT YOU LOSE IT". If your body doesn't utilize the muscle that's on it, then it will break it down and use it as energy instead of breaking down the fat. If you do nothing but steady state cardio to lose weight, then you are going to lose a lot of muscle as well.
