Cardio made me lose muscle.. Help!

Hey guys,

I used to complain about my stomach area in the past, although I had a great and toned chest to compliment it. Initially, cardio burned a lot of fat off my stomach and it started making my body look soap-opera worthy. Unfortunately, I probably over-did my cardio sessions (I used to run high intensity for 2-3 days a week, even if I didn't have that much body fat left) and now I'm stuck with muscle loss in the shoulder/upper chest area. I am trying my best to eat more calories, but for now, it isn't working. Any advice will really be appreciated. I hope muscle loss CAN be replaced, otherwise I'll be terribly depressed.

personally i've found when trying to lose bodyfat that if i keep my protein intake high and strength train i'm able to retain strength and size. how were you hitting the weights?

and yea, you can add more muscle. not a total loss, just a learning experience. :)

Hey Abear,

Ironically, I still had a high protein intake. I would eat a lean protein meal every 2-3 hours, and limit my fat intake to about 15% of my calories. I did avoid bread, and I probably ended up eating too few calories. Despite all this, occasional fat would be deposited in my stomach area, so I would run to the gym and do cardio just to get rid of that extra fat. At one point, I had trimmed down to 154 lbs. of lean muscle with a perfect set of abs! Unfortunately, the muscularity in my chest area wasn't what I wanted it to be (I wanted myself to be somewhat more buff). Now, I've been trying to gain weight, and I have put on 10 lbs... but I notice little in the way of upper body development. In-fact, my chest workouts seem noticeably more difficult to complete and I don't feel the same satisfaction I did when finishing my sets before. It's almost as if I'm trying to work out bones (lol... a little sarcastic there).

try to keep your fat intake above 20%. its important for testosterone production and joint health. when you need to lower calories, look to your carbs first. nothing dramatic just slight decreases over time. concentate on carbs like oats, veggies, fruits, brown rice, sweet potatoes/yams, etc

maybe its time to change your chest training like different angles and a different set/rep scheme to shake things up and get you jacked up again?

:)

I would have to agree if you are getting in enough protein and your not getting results with your training program change it!! Your body has probaly adapted to the stress and is no longer growing.
Try this will give you an accurate view of your diet and tell you whats what.
Short of that get some professional advice or try an online training program
