cardio and gains

if you have tons of muscle...don't eat...and run a few marathons, then yes, sorry I'm just in a sarcastic mood.

Basically it depends on how much cardio, the intensity, and most importantly what and how much you are eating. If you are doing light cardio or a little bit of interval training between lifting days, it won't do anything except help....help with strengthening you heart, decreasing fat, etc.

But if you do excessive amounts (emphasis on excessive) and are not eating enough to gain muscle mass, then yes, it will be much MUCH harder to put on muscle, or it may reduce muscle, to answer the question.

If your only go is gaining muscle, then yes.. cardio hurts that.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it in moderation. It also depends on the type. I would suggest HIIT to minimize the negative effects cardio can have on weight training.

Any type of exercise that puts your body in a hypoxic state will cause mitochondrial density to increase; which will reduce the actual density of actin and myosin in a set cross-sectional area.

AKA..... Cardio will limit strength gains no matter what. But to limit size gains, it would require you to have a diet that wasn't sufficient to support both types of exercise.
