Hiya, just wondered if someone can explain something to me...about 3 years ago I joined slimming world....i lost alot of weight and enjoyed the diet. On the diet you can eat unlimitted carbohydrates (if you are on a green day)...so I enjoyed eating mounded platefulls of pasta, rice and potatoes...it seemed the I ate...the more I lost. The problem is....although I lost alot of weight....I gained loads of cellulite on my legs, hips and bottom.....a friend told me that this is because I ate too much Carbohydrates (pasta, rice and potatoes)...she said because I ate too much carbohydrate than my body needed ....my body stored it as FAT and thats how Ive got the cellulite....IS THIS TRUE ?????......Ive started to do weight watchers now...but....I still eat jacket potatoes (almost on a daily basis for my lunch)....is this ok or will I continue to store fat??? I would be gratefull of any advice....although Im slim...my cellulite is so bad....i would love to be able to wear shorts this summer. Thank you. Mandie xx

Did you do much exercise?

Everyone needs carbs for energy so they should never be cut out of a diet. But if you eat heaps and don't do any exercise or very little then it will store.

Or maybe- you have lost some muscle which is heavier than fat but is also the key element in burning fat

My suggestion would be- keep eating carbs BUT not HUGE amounts. Eat wholegrain over white, brown rice over white etc. Start/keep exercising-including both cardio and weights

Here's what I found:

"Proponents of low-carb diets believe that when you eat too many carbs, insulin becomes less effective at carrying sugar to the cells which results in more sugar being stored as fat.

Scientists aren't sure if this is true and some researchers believe that this insulin insensitivity is only true for people who eat too many calories in the first place. So, who's right? We don't know. There's no proof that a high-carb diet causes overweight and there's an ongoing debate on the value and science behind low-carb diets."

And

"When you eat more food than your body needs as fuel, you store the excess food energy as fat. Whether the excess calories come from eating too many chips or too many lima beans (although it’s hard to eat too many lima beans), the same rule still applies. So achieving weight-loss still boils down to eating healthy, small, frequent meals that total fewer calories than what your body needs to function on a daily basis. Only then will your body burn your fat stores."
