Until after you know for a FACT by diagnostic equipment that you are totally fine.

In other words, see a doctor anyway. Not having money is an excuse. If you do not see one, you could pay a lot more later because you didn't know the damage.

Many hospitals will allow a process of billing you after treatment and you can work out a payback routine.

I had an afterthought:

When you are in an accident like that, the other car's insurance company is responsible for all injuries sustained if the driver was at fault.

If the driver of the car you are in is responsible, HIS/HER insurance company is responsible.

There is most likely a way to get repayed if this stuff is documented. This provides for you having a away out if a real injury or expensive tests drain your wallet.

That is why I said what I said.

Passengers have recourse.

I see ...so I guess I'll have to talk to my friend about the insurance thing. The cops said he was reponsible ( which is really farked up cuz it's not his fault).

I have been in that situation myself.

Ultimately, you need to be checked out. That is step one.

Step two is to find out what his insurance covers if you need medical treatment beyond xrays, etc.

Normally a minor accident with minimal impact may not be such a big deal. From what you describe, though, I am not sure you should have a pain as you did. That implies either a strained muscle or an injury in the spinal column. I believe there is a 95% probability there is nothing wrong (muscle strain only). However, it is the 5% that will hinder the rest of your life and could cripple you severly if left undiagnosed.

Hawk is right get to the hospital asap. I'm a paramedic and trust me I have seen little fender benders that have resulted in fractured vertebrae. Go as soon as you can. It is nothing to fool around with. I can give more examples if you need more incentive to go! Plz don't wait, even sleeping wrong can be very serious if you have a fracture or even swelling in your spinal cord.

would it still be ok to go jog , or maybe just do some pull-ups , push ups?
No go to the doc before you do anything! Re-read my post- even sleeping wrong can cause damage if there is anything that is not right there already. But if you would like to risk being a hemi-pelagic go right ahead. Personally I won't I like all my limbs functioning properly and the saying goes- Above C4 breath no more!

well I just got back. nothin wrong /w my back or anythin. just a lil muscle strain....

however I did learn somethin from the X-ray. the doctor said I was born /w a crooked (some segment of the spinal cord) back or whatever and advices me to never weight lift again =(

I am so shocked. I just started getting into weight training and all that...sigh

guess I'm just ganna only do push ups and pull ups...

are there any other ways of buildin muscle?

Absolutely.

-But doing anything without being under complete supervision of medical professionals is suicide.

Need to know more about the problem before advising you do any weight training.
You may end up being able to do a bodybuilding routine and only doing isolation exercises to keep the stress of your back.

where in your spine is this problem?

Be extremely careful with your spine. You are young now and believe me you don't want problems when you get older. Craig Ballentyne has some great body weight workouts and so does Alwyn Cosgrove. That combined with weights that don't put any stress on the spine should be ok. Hawk was right on though, you need to get the ok from your doc first. Write out a plan and explain to him what you are wanting to do and what the exercises are, then get his/her ok on it. If you can talk to a physio person as well to get more advice.

the X-rays showed that the bottom part ,certain segment is uneven. one side is bigger than the other. I was born like that he said. he advised me not to do any weight training or I'd suffer consequences in the future. I'm just really bummed out right now. I had goals and everythin. I've been doin weights for the past 4-5 weeks. everythin has been fine.

Say goodbye to the cleans, squats, dl's, and rows. Say hello to the leg extension and leg press machines.

I imagine you can still bench. Pull-ups are godly, anyway.

First, I would get a second opinion before doing anything. A blanket statement of no weight lifting period sounds extreme considering most docters would want you to strengthen you're back muscles in such a case. See an osteopathic doctor (sort of a chiropractor with an MD). As LeiYunFat says, avoid compression exercises That put a lot of pressure on you're spinal column. I have a bulged disc so I'm in the same boat with squats, deadlifts etc., but I have found ways around it, like weighted pelvic lifts that work the lower back, thighs and glutes like squats do but with no compression on the spine. I also do leg press, leg extensions, leg curls and machine calves. Rows don't seem to be a problem either. As I've said, get a second opinion because Over the years every doctor I've seen has encouraged my weight training and my back is better than ever. Lats, pull downs take pressure off you're spine so they should be fine, avoid standing barbell curls because they put a lot of strain on the lower back. Avoid any heavy standing exercises. Try seated incline dumbbell curls, seated dumbbell presses etc..
Good luck!
