Can't shift the weight! Help!

Hi

I've been training since January and have managed to drop a dress size.

I still weigh the same (73kg) and am now a size 12 but I just can't seem to shift the weight from my stomach.

I train everyday with Sunday as my rest day. I eat healthy and regularly. For example:

Breakfast: Oats
Snack: Yogurt or apple
Lunch: Salmon salad or ham wrap
Snack: Orange
Dinner: Chicken breast, veggies, sweet potato

I don't use butter or dressings and drink no fat milk (big fan of cups of tea). I do have days where I eat some chocolate etc so I'm not denying myself.

At the gym I do spin classes twice a week, boxing, circuit training, pump (weight) classes and I sometimes just hit the treadmill and run.

I'm frustrated that it’s now May and I'm not seeing a huge weight loss. I'm definitely fitter and my clothes all fit way better but it’s just the stubborn weight around my stomach.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome niko.

I think you are doing well. Keep going. Do'nt lose heart. Persistence will show you are doing fine.

Your diet looks good, you are exercising. Are your calories high enough. Check out your maintenance on a bmr calculator and substract about 500. That's how many calories you should be eating a day.

Also take your measurements about once a month. At least of your waist. You must be an apple shaped body type right? You may never have a totally slim waist but you will have a much nicer waist once you get well into your health weight range.

You have probably grown lots of msucles hence the lack of movement on the scales but you noted you've lost a dress size.

Consider starting a weight loss diary in that section here for more moral support etc.

Thanks FortyFour.

I don't actually think I'm eating enough after doing some research. Might have to adjust my diet.

Thanks for the encouragement!

Whitsunday!!!! I want to go there and do some sailing!!! I live north of Cairns. :) Lets be friends. though i am going awy for two months. I hope you will be here when i get back.

Hello niko!
I think you're doing just fine. Four months are not enough to see all the results you want, you just have to keep going.

If I could point something out about your diet/exercise regime without knowing all the specifics is that maybe you need to eat more protein.

dietoptimist, niki is eating protein at breakfast lunch adn dinner, i really don't think she needs to eat any more protein!

Note if she's eating oats for breakfast, she's probably putting milk on it which contains lots of protein.

Keep it up!

Looks like you could do with a little more food, actually. You need some more lean proteins and vegetables, specifically. Boiled eggs are a great protein source and are really lean.

Unfortunately, you can't really pick where the weight comes off, so the stomach area might be the last place that you lose. However, if you keep losing, it WILL eventually come off there too!

Also, keep an eye on how much sugar is in the foods you're eating. For example, what's in your yogurt? Try to keep meals under 5 grams of sugar, not including whole fruits. Looks like there's not a ton of sugar in your diet now, which is good, but you never know where it's hiding... I've been really surprised by some of the things that have lots of sugar.

I used to be on the diet similar to you. It's very close to the body builder diet. Lots of protein. My diet is very different then yours because I'm raw. When I was on your kind of diet, I really needed to exercise like crazy. I too carry weight on my tummy. It's a sign of sugar problems. If you stay with this diet, I can only suggest you move you supper carb to before 3pm and only eat meat and veggies. At my thinnest, my measurements are 38-28-38. At my biggest, 39-38-40. I almost gain it all on the tummy!

Wow thanks everyone for all your feedback. I definitely think I need to eat more during the day.

I feel better now and have not given up yet. Still really enjoy exercising. Its become a part of my routine now so I don't think about it, I just do it!

My sister is getting married on June 12th this year which inspired the weight loss.

Hope everyone else is doing as well!
