Cannon's Journal

Your doing great. I know how you feel about getting motivated to exercise. It is the hardest thing for me. I always feel better after I do, but getting out the door is a b*$#@! I just never really liked it. I love nature walks, walking around cities and exploring them, but don't show me a treadmill. Just keep making yourself do it. I'm off to the gym :(

I am so lazy. I just couldn't pull myself out of bed this morning to go walk. I'm either going to have to do it this evening or wake up early to do it on Saturday. I sometimes take awhile to get going, but once I do I am fine. Today I just couldn't get going. I'm going to eat well today and I have the water guy coming, but I don't want to fall out of my exercise routine especially this early.

Well the water cooler came at least--now that's fun :). Its got a hot water spigget too so I can do the green tea everybody is talking about.

yay for fresh water!!! have fun...

Some green tea is great (other is just hot colored water...)- i'm not sure what anti oxidants do, but i know green tea has lots of them and it's good for you... has got some really good ones (you can usually get some free samples sent to you from their website to try them out... When I was off caffeine last year for a while -Yogi was the only tea I could drink that had any real flavor to it... Some of it has caffeine in it - so keep that in mind..

It took me almost 3 days to get up off my couch and dust off my gazelle machine, but when I did I felt GREAT, so I'm sending some of my motivation your way!!!! I'll be checking to see if you get your evening walk in

Hey! This is how antioxidants were explained to me. I work in skin care so it's an issue. If you cut an apple and leave it on the counter than it turns brown, right? That's oxidation. If you put lemon juice on it than it remains white. That's because the lemon juice is acting like an antioxidant.

The cells in our body act the same way. They can become damaged when exposed to the environment. Some attribute cancer and other diseases to this. Consuming anti-oxidants helps to prevent this damage.

It is the tannins in green tea that are thought to help with flushing out fat and increasing metabolism.

Anyway. Cannon, you are doing great so far. Set small goals with the exercise. We know you can do it!

Thanks for the support folks. I have a rather long post for tonight. First, I never did get the walk in. Part of the problem for me is that I'm not in the shape I need to be in to do something really fun for exercise. I make my walks fairly pleasant with an IPOD and doing it at the time I like to be out when the streets are pretty quiet, but it is a chore. When I get in better shape I'd like to take martial arts again. The class atmosphere made me push a lot harder than working out alone.

Secondly, I had a mixed day today. Thursdays are rough because I have a masters class. I meet my friends at a bar for lunch and drinking from 3-4:15 and then we get to class by 4:30. When we get to class there is usually more food and out of boredom we eat again. Fortunately, I won't have to worry about this issue for a few more weeks.

The Positive
I tried to make a good choice - I ordered a Cajun chicken sandwhich which was skinless and on a wheat bun
I limited myself to only half the French Fries
I limited myself to only one beer and drank 2 waters
When the waitress mistakenly brought me another beer I didn't drink it and instead gave it to my friend.
I cut down what I ate in class a little

The Negative
I had no veggies today other than spinach on a piece of pizza
I ate food in class I didn't need to have and shouldn't have taken
I didn't get my walk in
I drank 4 ounces of Diet Pepsi so I had caffeine

Overall I guess I give the day a C-. I didn't kill the diet, but I could have done better.

Breakfast
Yogurt

Lunch
2 Ounces of Turkey
Whole Wheat Bagel
TBSP Mircale Whip

Dinner
Skinless Cajun Chicken Sandwich
French Fries
Light Beer

Snack
2 pieces of spinach pizza
1/2 slice of lemon pound cake

The fact that you're concious of what you're eating and noting the good/bad means that your mindset is a lot better than you give yourself credit for...:D

Keep going strong! :)

Hmmmm, I'm going to go with a B- for the day. Your not doing so bad. Your thinking about things and being aware. It's a good start. It is hard to exercise when you weigh so much. I can relate. I didn't go to the gym again tonight. I decided to do a work-out DVD. I really could only do 1/2 of the exercises properly, but I did what I could and I can feel the squats kicking in already. After that I put in a yoga DVD that I got from McDonald’s months ago when I ordered a salad. I had never even looked at it. It freaked me out. There wasn't a real person in it--it was a digital entity and I only had to watch it for about 20 seconds to realize even the "Beginner" routine was going to kill me. There was no friggin way I could do it. I just try to keep a sense of humor about it. I didn't want to work out with that digital babe anyway. Freaky! My point is, just try to do something and it can't do anything but get easier for us. Don't be discouraged. 1/2 of the French fries is awesome!

Thanks for all the support yesterday. It helped.

Today started out a bit better. I got my walk in and it was a little cooler today so I sweated less. I think Monday I'll do 6 blocks again and follow it with 7 on Tuesday. Then I'm on vacation and I know I'll get a lot of walking in, but I'll have to really make sure I do at least 7 blocks straight at least once a day. I'm going to have yogurt this morning and then the chiropractor is going to work on a few dieting things with me.

didn't kill the diet, but I could have done better

Not killing your diet is a good thing...You were aware of your choices you had to make and tried to choose appropriately... you did fine...

While I think I would die without music, and my ipod goes where ever I do - there are a lot of good podcasts out there -- Prevention Magazine has one on their website and I'm pretty sure there are others out there as well...

You've had a good couple of days - pat yourself on the back...

My chiropractor definitely thinks I can drop into the 400s this Summer if I follow the routine I have planned. That's good to hear. He mentioned a girl he treated who lost 72 pounds before starting college by walking and watching what she ate.

I didn't eat breakfast because I was on the phone all morning with my student loan providers. They're saying I'm past due and I need to fill out paperwork showing I'm in school. Meanwhile, they just sent my grad school $2,700 for my current classes yesterday. I hate bureacracy.

I'm eating 2 turkey cheese and broccoli Lean Pockets for lunch because I'm hungry and don't feel like cooking. They're a combined 540 calories and a bit high in sodium, but I should still be OK. The chiropractor also said my illiocecal valve was closed now and I could introduce raw fruits and veggies back into my diet slowly. I'm having a Diet Mountain Dew to celebrate.

congrats, on the 100th post!!:)

I'm glad you got out on your walk, and also good to hear eveything is ok with your valve. Keep up the good work!

Hey cannon, well done on your 100th post. I'm glad your valve thing is better and now u can have all those lovely fruits and veggies again. I'm a fruit girl myself and i am forcing myself to eat more vegetables. I hope you are having a great day!

Hey there sorry it's taken me an age to get here things have been a bit hectic this week!

I've read through the last few pages of your diary and am glad to hear your valve is better. I take it, though I'm not too sure, that this is a heart valve we're on about? I have heart problems as well (part of the reson I'm trying to get my weight down) though it's unlikely mine will heal (it's a hole in the muscle).

Hope you have a great weekend and are looking forward to your studies! My first year at uni was the best ever!:D
