As we all know halloween is quickly on its way. This is the scariest night for me because I always give in to temptation. BUT NOT THIS YEAR. I just wanted to see what everyone is doing and maybe we can give eachother some helpfull hints.

For halloween I myself am not going out. Im staying home to hand out candy. Instead, however, of buying candy I like and know I would eat I have baught candy I dont like at all (air heads, sweet tarts, and gummybears) to hand out to the kids. This way I wont be tempted at all.

So give some other helpfull hints and do the survey

I've lived in 3 different cities over the past 5 years or so and never once had a trick or treater ... I however have a big old basket of kisses, tootsie rolls and other assorted treats that I don't like on my desk (i do like the reeces peanut butter cups, but tehy got eaten early) though I think i've eaten my weight in candy corn over the past few days and I frankly don't care all that much...

instead of candy, go shopping at oriental trading company for non candy treats to hand out... or puzzle books... or tooth brushes - microwave popcorn... no rule says it had to be candy and no candy won't kill any kid...

never thought of that Oriental Trading company had those little things you can buy in Gross Thats a great idea

Answer: None of the above...

Some dolt decided to schedule volleyball districts on Halloween. Needless to say the entire team, and our coach (she has 2 kids) are pissed.

Other than that, I don't know what I'll be doing. :D

None of the above.

I don't have kids and I have to work that night, but our supes decided to have a food day for Halloween. :) I probably won't hand out anything either since the roommate that'll be home won't want to do it for me. I might, though. I'm wishy-washy. :D

In the past we usually bought several bags of snack size candy bars, and would have to buy more right before Halloween, because we ate them all. ;)

Then last year we tried just buying candy to give out that we didn't like, but we didn't have very many trick or treaters, so we ended up eating the candy anyway. ;)

So...this year I think we're giving out regular size bags of M&Ms and I'll allow myself to have one bag. I figure I deserve a treat every once in a while. ;)

On Halloween night we are taking the little one trick or treating and then staying home to give out candy. I thought about providing a healthy option along with the usual candies but I'm not sure if the children would want it.

As for ds's candies, they will probably be mostly sent along to dh's work the next day but we always keep leftover candy in the house. I find that having the candy around keeps me from going nuts and binging after not having sweets in a while. I don't think I'll actually eat candy or at least very much of it on that night however.

I don't eat candy anymore, instead I'm dressing up this year and going to a party with some friends. No idea if there'll be food, but I'll make sure to eat the good stuff!

Looking at all of the weight you've lost, I find it hard to believe that you would want to reverse any of that progress by binging on something so bad for you. I realize that a treat every now and then isn't going to destroy your diet. What if you eat dinner before the trick or treaters start coming around so you're full or have some healthy alternatives at hand for you in case you do become tempted such as fruit if you're craving sweets or chocolate frozen yogurt?

I know it's tough not to be tempted especially when something you enjoy is at your fingertips but think of how much more work you'll have to do to burn off those extra calories. Is it worth it? That's really up to you.

I'm moving the next day so even if I'm handing out candy, which I usually do, I'll be too busy in between visits to snack on the candy. Plus I don't have a sweet tooth. I only crave chocolate once every few weeks and even then I rarely eat it.

Good luck and I hope you can find a healthy balance that night.

we'll be taking my son out early then staying home to give out treats. I'll have some of my kid's haul, probably give out most of it....he's 2 and has never had candy or chocolate. we have no intention of introducing him to it anytime in the near future.

Well, there's nothing wrong with chocolate, as long as it is in moderation, of course. Dark chocolate is a better alternative too, it has less sugar and milk I believe. It also has some benefits for the health if eaten in a small quantity. But candy definitely isn't a good choice. It's good you're showing healthy options to your son.

Well, at my place we are handing out those individually wrapped prunes. Yep, they are sweet and somewhat healthy.

They have antioxidants in them!! And they will help with their fruit intake for the night.

Then we also have boxes of raisins. I love raisins.

There, thats our alternative and vegan Halloween goodies!

I haven't had any kids come round here in the last few years so will not be buying anything. The first year I was here I stockpiled loads of sweets, and not one bugger showed up. (guess who had to eat them all?) In fact I rarely see any kids out and about on halloween these days. I reckon 'trick or treating' is dying out now.

Ideas:
- Exercise after school/work, before the trick or treating starts. That motivates me to behave for the rest of the evening.
- After trick or treating dies down, put the candy away for the night. Pop some popcorn?
- Bring extra candy to work the next day and leave it for your co-workers. Let them consume the calories! Just get it out of the house.

We are taking my son out to the mall to trick or treat as he's only 3 years old so no of this door to door stuff. just friends and then the daylight stuff in the mall. I may give some stuff out to trick or treaters but not candy. stuff like individual packs of teddy grams, and goldfish thigns that are somewhat healthy.

I will be passing out 3 musketeers because I don't like them, but I still expect to eat some Halloween candy. I'll keep it at 3 or 4 fun sized bars and enjoy my little treat. I do agree that you don't have to hand out candy. When I was 11 years old, a neighbor across the street handed out various trading cards. I got a pack of hockey cards and being a typical kid who liked sports I was happy with what I got. One of the players was a young rookie center for the Edmonton Oilers named Wayne Gretzky. I still have that card and in its current condition its worth $500. I think that was better than even a Snickers.
