Hey,

BaDD food.!! lol.. so if anyone can just give me ideas of things to buy..that are good with weight loss thats great!!...my Biggest problem is food.. i love it.. but im gettin fatter..and its making me sick! im not happy with myself..and i have a 2 year old and i can hardly do things with him... so i was just wondering if you guys can help me out ..i have to feed a family of three..and my husband is also losing weight(alot better then me)..hes already lost like 60 pounds..:(...but please help me out i can really use it.. (im really bad for snacking!!) thanks to who ever helps :waving:

I overcame it with food by going totally cold turkey. I stopped buying anything unhealthy and there was nothing unhealthy in the house. I kept this up for a while and now I don't even want to buy any snacks, chocolate etc. Then again I'm only providing for me, not a family so it probably won't be so easy for you.

I just think that you have to go extreme for a few weeks to get over those cravings and re-train your mind.

honestly...take your time and walk around the store. Dont shop in a rush. Dont bring kids with you or husbands. I know lots of people say "stick to a list!" but i cant do that, I slowly walk through the store and look at EVERYTHING and decide "do I really need this?" or "is there an alternative option?" (love ice cream? try sherbert or real fruit sherbert..if you can find it, frozen yogurt).

Never shop hungry. Eat a protein bar or drink a few glasses of water before shopping. I was horrible about grabbing everything in sight-especially snack foods-when I was hungry. I also noticed that those 100 calorie snack packs are tons better than a giant bag/box of snacks because you can pay attention to how much you're actually snacking on.

How is your husband losing and you're not? Do you guys have different food from each other?

The best way I've found to shop is to plan ahead and try to stick to the perimeter of the store as much as possible. It's hard to go wrong with whole foods. If you shouldn't eat it, don't buy it, period. Have willpower once in the store instead of trying to say no several times a day once it's in the house.

Sometimes you have to get a little creative to feed everyone. I have to watch what I eat, my wife could eat anything she wants and never gain a lb, and we also have a toddler. All of us have to eat from the same meals, and I cook for us all every day. Sometimes my wife may eat something prepared in a little more "healthy" manner than she may prefer for my sake, and other times I fix her things she likes that I shouldn't eat so I make myself an alternative. It takes extra work sometimes but what doesn't?

so if anyone can just give me ideas of things to buy..that are good with weight loss thats great!!.
I would suggest doing an internet search for something like "2000 calorie diet" and you will find several meal plans. Buy the stuff you need to make those meals. I'm not suggesting you should be on a 2000 calorie diet. That may not be right for you. But it would give you an idea of the kinds of food you should be eating.

I second not shopping on an empty stomach. Whenever I shop while hungry i end up buying alot of junk food and snacks. If you like oatmeal get some. Whenever I have oatmeal in the morning I feel full longer. I dont get the flavored ones with added sugar, I just get the regular one.

I also get a bag of frozen mixed veggies. it works better for me because fresh veggies spoil so quickly (maybe my fridge settings) and it seems like i am wasting alot of money

Try and do a bit of planning before shopping, make up a diet for a week and you want to be having small regular meals throughout the day and that will help stop the bad snacking habits. Im married with 2 kids and our shopping the day we bought heaps of chicken and steak, plenty of veges, salad and fruit. Ryvita crackers, tuna, cottage cheese, yoghurt. I also include protein shakes every day.
I only started recently but i havent felt the need to snack at all and not once have i felt hungry. Good luck to you :D

If it's not a meal, I won't buy it. I have always been good about not snacking though, it's really not tempting for me.
However having kids would really make it hard to resist! I suggest looking for things that are portion controlled or low cal (fruits veggies and things too!) and prep em when you get home so they are ready to eat. I always divide up my grapes and carrots into little tupperwear containers so i have them portioned and ready to travel.

I'd suggest, making a list. Simple enough right? When you have a list, your more then likely to get what you just need. Maybe even make a little side note NOTHING ELSE.

I would suggest when you go grocery shopping to start with the fruits and vegetables, than work your way to the meats and look for lean meats. Ground Turkey is a good substitute for ground beef in a lot of recipes. Chicken breasts are also a good source of protein and they don't pack on a lot of fat. Then you should work your way to the dairy section, low fat or reduced fat milk is a better choice for you than regular 2% milk, yogurt and any reduced fat cheese is a good choice. You should then work your way into the center of the store, down the aisles, almonds, pistachios, cashews and peanuts without any kind of flavoring is a really good snacking choice. They pack on a lot of nutrition. There is a big difference in choosing wheat over white bread. Whole Grain bread is the best, you can find 50 calorie wheat bread from nature's own.

I hope this helps!
