Calves

I have always had "cankles." I am 26 and weighh about 110. I have been doing toning 2-3 days a week with cardio 3-4 days a week. I would like to get rid of this fat on my calves and have better toned calves. Do you know of any exercises that will do this and how long? Thanks.

You say you are toning 2-3 days a week. I am assuming that means you are weight/strength training ?? Are you going to a gym or are you "toning" at home ? If we know what type of equipment you access to, we can give you a better idea on what exercises to perform.

You cannot spot reduce fat. You want to lose fat in your ankle/calves, do squats and other big muscle group exercises. Muscle burns fat.

Because the soleus is a lower calf muscle, I would avoid any calf raises where your knees are bent (e.g. seated calf raises). The soleus will only make your ankles appear larger. When you do calf raises, do them with straight legs (e.g. standing calf raises or donkey calf raises).

What do you do for cardio? Do you run? Or, bike? Try it, you may like it.

1. stop eating ALL trans fats.
2. drink lots of water.
3. eat smaller HEALTHY meals 6-8 times per day.

This is what I have been doing:

boot camp - cardio with some weights 2x week

toning - smaller weights with more repetitions 2 or 3 x week

kickboxing 2 x week

pilates 1 x week

i am planning on adding running, but i am unsure of how much and how often. I am not sure why I have fat in my calves, but nonetheless I do.
