Calories burned

I try to get to the gym3 to 5 days a week. When I'm doing cardio, like treadmill, bike or elliptical, what is a good amount of calories to burn to see results soon?

For a good, realistic, sustainable amount of weight loss, we generally target a calorie deficit of about 500kcal/day (a bit higher if you have a very high bodyfat %, a bit lower if you already have a low bodyfat%), which is about 45-60min worth of continuous exercise, depending on intensity.

Of course, as I've discussed in the training for fat loss sticky, strength training 2-3 times a week is more important for body composition than cardio -- it can be set up to burn just as many calories as you would in a cardio session, and unlike cardio it preserves lean body mass, so the weight you lose is actually coming from fat.

Just watch the data I put over here. It would give you clear idea what exactly you need to do:

• Treadmill: A 145-lb person can burn 300 calories by running at 5.2 mph for 30 minutes.

• Bicycling: By using the power of your legs, you increase endurance while burning lots of calories, anywhere from 250-500 in 30 minutes.

• Elliptical trainer: The elliptical trainer is also a good choice for runners looking for a break from pounding the pavement. A 145-lb person burns about 300 calories in 30 minutes.

Keep in mind, whenever you increase your intensity, the possibility of burning more calories would also increase.
