Calories burned based on BPM

I used a calaculator online to see how many calories I am burning when running and it said 1000 calories which sounds a little high to me considering the treadmill only says 500. I just started running a couple of weeks ago, I run 5.2 mph on a 1.5 incline for 1 hour (so 5.2 miles) everyday excepr Sunday. My BPM is through the roof though at 185 BPM. I was just wonderng if anyone knew which number was more accurate? I am a 30 year old female, 5'4" 121 lbs.

Thanks :)

Can't help with the calculations; I expect both are wrong and the truth is somewhere in between the two. But your heart rate of 185 is very high, not a rate I would recommend training at routinely. If it's accurate, you should consider reducing the intensity of your workout until your fitness level improves.

I really cannot say as I know how much I burn when I run but my stats are different to yours, I weigh more and am taller, I run on a 5%+ gradient at 10-11km/h (not sure how many miles per hour that is). I know for me it heads towards 700kcals per hour on my heart rate monitor if I were to run for the hour. I do interval training on that (2-3 mins run 10-11km/h, 1min walk 6.5km/h) and manage an average 550kcals per hour on that.

I think the best thing you can do is to get a heart rate monitor as they tend to be more accurate (I can suggest Polar) but its safe to say that most treadmills will grossly overestimate. The ones I run on say I burn 50% more at least then my heart rate monitor says. Its got to be some sort of joke- they are so wrong its funny!

I'm actually gonna ask for a HR monitor for christmas. Right now I'm going off the HR monitor on the treadmill and I'm not sure how accurate that is. Thanks for the help though!
