Calorie counting with MyFitnessPal

Hi everyone!

I just got the iPhone app called MyFitnessPal which helps track the amount of calories consumed and used per day. The daily caloric intake it suggested was 1,200 (for a 1lb loss every week) - and I was wondering, does that mean net caloric intake or the total? For example, today, apparently I consumed 1,269 calories and used 500 on the elliptical - does that mean I have about a 400-calorie deficit today or have I over-consumed 69 calories?

I'm sorry if this is a silly question but I'm new to the calorie counting business!

Also, would creating this kind of deficit result in weight loss eventually?

Thank you in advance for your help!

AWhat did you set your activity levels to?

Your net calories should be 1200. You can eat your exercise calories back, but that's a personal choice. It's whatever works for you.
