Calculating Calories burned

Hi, I'm wondering how to manually calculate calories burned using my heart rate and time spent in that heart rate. *NOTE* I mean my actual heart rate, NOT % zone. Thanks in advance

Ya know, I'm analytical as well, but this is probably a not a very valuable thing to know or practical number to be able to calculate. So many variables will determine how many calories you burn @ a given heart rate and will vary a lot by individual. The machines I use at the gym tell you "how many calories burned" but don't take into consideration many variables except intensity. I find that different machines are usually in the same range of calories for a given heart rate, so they may be the most accurate measure. If you google around enough, you may find some type of formula that considers age, weight, and gender to come up with this number.

I think a better idea would be to go a gym, get your heart rate up to desired rate on a machine, and see how many calories the machine says you burned in 10 minutes. Then do the same thing on several different machines and take an average.

What is your goal? Are you looking to minimize intensity and increase duration to burn the same amount of calories as higher intensity/lower duration, or the opposite? What will you use the number for?
