C-L's diary

Okay, so I'm new and I've decided that for now on, I'm going to do the things that worked, as well as avoiding the things that made me stop working out previously. I've been a cigar smoker and at 5'7, I'm at my heaviest point, which is 210. While not egregiously obese, it is uncomfortable and I don't like it at all. I'm looking to get to 185 and maintain that weight. Exercising isn't the problem for me, it's more of a dietary and motivation thing. Here's to a new turn. I hope to accomplish this goal within a year.

tonight-half an hour walk, and early bed before cardio in the early wee hours of the morning.:)

Okay, woke up at 4:50 a.m. and was on the treadmill at around 5:00 a.m. I went for a good thirty-five minutes. I hesitated to go longer as this marks the first day of getting back in shape and I didn't want to over do it. I worked up a good sweat and right now I feel great. Yes jpc1058, I do plan to incorporate weight training.:) I did bench press, behind the neck press, as well as bicep curls with the bar. I have to be at work at 7:30 a.m. and my commute is about half an hour, so I'm limited as to my lifting routine, unless I cut short the cardio, which I don't want to do. Oh well, there's always weekends to spoil myself with weights.

Thanks for the encouragement folks, it's greatly appreciated. It's almost as if you guys are right there with me at 5:00 a.m.!. ;)

I finished the week strong and have kept up the same routine, though varying the length of cardio time on the elliptical trainer. Diet is going well. The wife and I have ditched pop entirely and have flavored water instead. I've also ended all caffeine consumption through coffee, though I'll work that in hopefully on the weekend.

saturday-same schedule, with more lifting; ditto sunday.

I think giving up soda and artificial drinks is the best thing I ever did. When I was in my senior year of college (and I wish that was just yesterday, but was about 13 years ago)...I gave it all up (minus coffee...which followed by another year or two)...and started drinking water and milk only. I swear my skin was smoother...my hair silkier...my body stronger and more energized (naturally)...you just have to wonder what all that stuff does to you, really. I will very rarely have a soda or coffee...but when I do, I enjoy it more and don't long for another when I'm finished. I will still opt for the caffeine free varieties 99% of those rare times.

Good for you and your wife - you will thank yourself when you start to notice the difference!!!
