Busy's Diary

I think having these diaries are a good idea. Anything to motivate is always good.

A little about me:

I am a 40 year old single mother from New York City. My children are 16 and 8 years 10 months.

As a young woman I was super skinny, at 19 I weighed 125 lbs at 6 feet tall. After I had my son I was a shapely 140. After my daughter was born I got up to 160, still not bad, but then I got Lyme Disease and my weight jumped to 180 for some reason. Once I got it under control, it dropped back down to the 170s. Over the years I’ve worked on it, but my weight still never got below 160lbs. I was thinner, but I was not healthier. So this year I’ve decided to get healthier and hopefully the weight will drop off as a result.

In October 2007, I was at my highest weight of 200lbs. I was in a tight 16 and out of shape. Walking gave me chest pain. But the reason I’ve decided to change my eating habits was my GI issues. First they found a polyp in my gall bladder and then my GI tract went haywire. They are going to do an endoscopy and a colonoscopy in February to make sure I don’t have Crohn’s or something else.

In 2000 I was a vegetarian for a couple of years, but then I said “screw it” and went back to the poor eating habits I once had. My cholesterol which is high due to heredity went even higher. I had got it down to 210 with diet alone, but it went back up to around 285.

Due to my GI issues, my weight dropped in about 2 weeks from 200 to 179. Once I felt better, I started eating junk again and it quickly went back up to 185. Now I am back down to 179, however, I’ve not lost anything in about 7 days. Someone in another thread said it could be due to my initial ‘sick loss’, and now things are slow. It seems like my body is holding on to the fat just in case.

I’m confident that eventually, it will start to drop again. I’ve been walking and lifting weights. I’ve stayed under 1,500 calories a day. This is from a woman who used to eat 3,000 calories a day. All my calories now are from veggies, fruits, beans and complex carbs. For fat I eat a few nuts. Even the complex carb intake is extremely low. I’m a little frustrated, but I haven’t given up hope.

My new diet has had good effects. I feel much better. My GI tract doesn’t bother me anymore. The horrible arthritic pain I had in my shoulder due to the inflammation in my GI tract has lessened. I don’t need to nap anymore, and I have no fatigue around 3pm.

I don’t eat sugar
I don’t drink caffeine
I don’t drink alcohol
I eat three times a day to detox and get rid of the Toxic Hunger
I am hardly hungry

I am following the “Eat to Live” plan, and as far as health, it is working.

Anyway I wish ya the best and look forward to seeing your progress,Tammy

Today was the first day I didn't feel hungry, even though I worked out really hard this morning. I had a green smoothie for breakfast around 8am then I didn't eat until 3pm, I just wasn't hungry. I had my vegetable soup at 6pm and that was it, I wasn't hungry at 6pm, but I needed to eat so at midnight I won't wake up famished.

Feeling good. Still 179, but my waist is down from 38.5 to a 36. At least I can see a change there.

OK why is it so hard to let people be?

So what if I'm a vegetarian? It is not like it is a disease. There is one co-worker in particular that always has a comment about my lunch.

"I don't know how you do it"
"Don't you miss meat?"
"You are so disiplined"
"That salad doesn't look fun"

WTF? Why are you so worried about what is on my plate? Go on and eat your oil ridden foods and leave me to myself.

My answer to the last comment which she just said, I said, "It's not about fun, it's about being healthy."

She just shrugged and walked away.

This is a girl who if she gains 2 lbs freaks out, so if that is the case, shouldn't you eat more healthful?

She also said to me the other day:

"I'm thinking about going vegetarian for a few weeks to lose some of this weight."

*sigh* :cuss:

You don't 'go vegetarian', either you are or you aren't. It isn't a DIET, it is a lifestyle. If you were to do that, once you started eating meat again, you'd gain it all back.

Sometimes....

Maybe make a comment or two about her plate of food? "Ewwwwww, that dead animal in your sandwich looks kinda gross, no offense" :). ha ha

Kudos for going vegetarian. I was a vegetarian for a while then a pescatarian. My body felt much cleaner, if that makes any sense. Don't listen to the naysayers, people dislike what they don't understand.

Blancita....LOL! Maybe I'll get to say that in a few weeks. She said to me that it is "sushi day" in our caf. I told her "After what I've read, I don't think I'll miss it". She said "I don't want to know" so she is in denial.

Mal...you are right, why can't it be both?

lanadefemme....Thanks for the kudos. I do feel cleaner and I have way more energy.

Well I was becoming frustrated with the fact that the scale doesn't move. Then mal and some others told me I should up my intake to jump start my metalbolism, so I'll work on that.

However, my pants fit better. That is what I should really be looking at. When I started on the 1st my waist was a whopping 38.5 inches (my chest is only 2.5 inches bigger). As of today it is a 35. In 18 days I've lost 3.5 inches in my middle. That is what I really need to focus on. I am an apple and that isn't good for the heart. So although the scale is not making me happy, the tape measure is.

:hurray:

Focusing more on measurements is far better than the scale...

you do not walk around with a sign on your chest saying how much you weigh - no one ever has to know -

measurments are a visible thing

Well done on those 3+ inches.. that's great..

Wow, absolutely stupendous job on the measurements! I would definitely rather lose an inch off my waist than a pound off the scale any day of the week.

So after takiing Mal's (and Steve's) advice, I've upped my intake and lost 3 lbs more.

I am down 9 lbs since the first and 24 lbs all together.

And I noticed in the past when I was changing my eating habits and trying to lose weight, the times I've lost the most is when I incorporated complex carbs into the diet. I started a detox that was purely veggies, nuts and fruit no complex carbs, however it moved slowly, the minuted I started eating the carbs, the weight dropped.

Interesting.

Well I was going for 100, but I'll take 94...thank you!

If you continue maintaining healthy habits, you'll want to plan for a maximum life expectancy of 94 years or more.

Your "ideal" weight for maximum longevity is: 154 lbs.

The three biggest positive factors that you have going for you are:
1. Age
2. Gender
3. Diet

The one biggest negative factor that you have going for you is:
1. Family health

They say this, but my 'family' history is based on a poor diet. Lots of saturated fat, sugar and all the stuff that makes you heavy and have disease. My grandmother died of ovarian cancer, that is because she didn't go to the doctor to try and manage it. My grandpa died of a heart attack, he was an alcoholic, my dad died of a drug overdose, my mom's mom died of a heart attack and complications from diabetes and her dad died in an accident. So if you look at it, this stuff can be prevented. I don't have to succumb to the diseases of the western world.

When I woke up yesterday I was 171 lbs. I didn't do a backflip, I knew it was do to the cleansing I had to do for my colonoscopy. I was so dehydrated, I wanted water but couldn't have it. So after was all said and done, this morning I'm at 174! Yeah!

I didn't work out Sunday or Monday or today. But tomorrow I'll have to work back into it. I think the anesthesia is pretty much gone.

My size 14 pants can close, tight, but I can button them.

Dang, I haven't posted here in almost 1 month. So I try the elliptical today, OH MY GOD, can we say PAINFUL. Why the heck is it so hard? I didn't think my quads were that weak. I lasted 5 minutes before I gave up and went to the treadmill. I will try and add a minute or two each time I try it.

Of course now my legs hurt from working out. I've gone to the gym 3 days in a row. Did Cardio and lower Sunday, Cardio and upper Tuesday and Cardio (long) today. Tomorrow I'm sleeping in. I thought my working out at home was good enough, it used to be. I used to be sore the next day, but this time around there was no soreness. I guess it was just time to join a gym and get a different type of workout.
