I decided to find some support for losing weight without having to pay a lot of money. I'm only 18, and need all the money i earn for bills. I'm 5'7" and weight 200 lbs. I used to weigh 145, and then stabled off at 150. i still needed to lose a few more lbs, but felt comfortable. Over the past year i gained 50 pounds because i all of a sudden lost all self control. Now i need to keep to something... anything...but i dont know what. Could someone out there suggest a dieting method for someone who cant afford special meals? Maybe suggest some exercises that work well? I just bought an Ab Chair, which should be coming in the next few days. I need to know if I should start walking, or devote a half hour per day to certain exercises, or anything. i joined for support because i can't do this by myself and i know people here can help me.

thank you for all suggestions.

Newbride is right. Eat less, move more. Nothing fancy or expensive about it. Walking is an excellent way to start. It's free and easy. You're diet should consist of whole grains, lean protein, lots of veggies, fruit and a small amount of fat. There is a free website called that can help with specifics.

Agreed!

I hate paying for information. I joined a certain weight loss celebrity's website only to be extremely dissappointed. And when I tried to cancel, they still charged me an extra month and REFUSED to return my money.

I can't say what will work best for you because there are so many different routes. Just make sure it's not a quick fix. They don't work. It needs to be something you can maintain. Life change and all . . .

And to me the most important (and I say it again and again)
If you don't make eating healthy and exercising a priority, you won't get around do doing it. You are worth it!

This place looks great. I just joined myself and there is so much info I don't know where to begin!

Good luck!

Hey I agree with Newbride.

I'm only new and just starting off loosing my weight too ! I cut back on a lot of junk food, I still eat chocolate, I have a horrible addiction. The ab chair will be nice. But do you have dumbells and weights too? I heard somewhere that weight training helps increase your metabolism. That will help ! Also keep in mind that only after 20 minutes of cardio will you start burning fat. Cardio is definitely needed in loosing fat off a body...whether you walk or run, jog, do aquafit, ride a bike, whatever as long as you keep your heart rate up!

I keep veggies chopped up in my fridge...it's a pain in the butt to do all t he time.. but everyone in my house loves it. I started off slow... basically I'm focusing more on living a healthier lifestyle before I focus on all the actual working out and weight loss. The lifestyle will help, and I am a type of person who gets overwhelmed easily ! So I started off real slow... first week was to take my vitamin every day and drink 3 bottles of water a day.

The next week was to do all that, drink 4 bottles of water and eat a piece of fruit everyday, and if not fruit then blend a fruit smoothy. And also start working out. I had to do a half hour of something at least 3 times a week. I'm still at that week because I haven't quite mastered it ! but yea.

Also remember, it took how long to gain the weight, it's going to take some time to loose t he weight ! Just be patient ! It comes in time ! And you'll have your ups and downs...but you're entitled to it ! :) Good luck with everything and take care !

You can do it.....

It sounds like you just need a little self-confidence that you can do this. Believe me, you can!!! My philosophy has always been baby-steps. Start with one small goal. Once you reach that one, pick another and another and before you know it you'll have made great strides.

Walking is the one of the easiest and "cheapest" ways to lose weight. Walk EVERYWHERE you possibly can. Can you walk to school? If so, do it! Can you walk to the mall or grocery store? If so, do it! Take the stairs instead of the elevator or escalator when you are out and about. Can you get outside during lunchtime? Walk to a park or playground and have eat your lunch once you get there. There are so many ways to incorporate walking into your life.

As for the eating on a budget, eating healthy is actually cheaper than eating processed or prepared foods. When you buy processed or prepared foods you are not only paying for the "food" but you are paying for the packaging, the processing and the advertising that goes with it. Fresh salad is always a good choice, top it with some chicken or salmon/tuna that you can get in a can. And drink plenty of skim milk and low-fat, part-skim cheese along with 100% Wheat or Whole Grain bread.

And the biggest rule I have - don't fret if you have a bad day or go backwards. It happens to the best of us. We are human, we aren't perfect all the time!! It doesn't mean you can't do it, it just means that day wasn't a good one and to use it as your motivation to do better the next day.

I wish you the best of luck! Post back and let us know how you are doing!!

My suggestion is to shock your system. I got this plan from my doctor and yeah it seems a little steep but it works..
30 min exercise EVERYDAY (if not more at least 30)
1200 calories a day (its not hard to count calories it helps focus)
Do not eat after 7pm. (if you must eat choose a negative calories food, like celery or something theres a list on here somewhere)
64 X2 by 1:00 in the afternoon
64 X2 by bedtime
Take 1 multi-vitamin everyday.

Welcome tot he forum family and you can and will do this!

I estimate I'm saving up to $100 PER WEEK by not spending money on snacks, drinks, excessive quantities of food. Think how easy it would be to spend $10.00 on snacks. A large drink, a few chocolate bars, a bag of chips, it all adds up so fast. I now shop for food once a week, and it costs me about $80.00 for two people. I used to go nightly and spend around $25.00 each time. Crazy. I wish I could go back in time and change that behaviour. I would be slim and have a pocket full of cash.
