bulking up in all the wrong places

so I put on over 15 pounds but it seems that most of it went to my thighs, butt, and midsection
and then my arms seem to slightly out of proportion (smaller) relative to my broad shoulders while my chest doesnt in stick out more that the bottom of my rib cage
so basically I want to get my arms and chest more proportional to my body

I assume I should just reduce the squats/deadlifts i do and focus more on upper body workouts but is this a good idea? thanks

It sounds like most of the 15 pounds you gained is body fat and that goes where ever your body is genetically programmed to store fat. DO NOT stop doing a balanced routine, including squats and deadlifts! Maximum hormonal sitmulation, which programs your body to burn fat and build lean body mass, is caused by stressing the large muscle groups with heavy compound movements! You have 2 choices:

1. Either you need to realize you will be bulking and cutting, and when you are bulking you will add some excess body fat in places that are not ideal

OR

2. Eat less (or better) and be satisfied with slowly adding lean body mass with minimal body fat.

Remember: you can not out exercise a poor diet, if you eat a caloric excess you WILL add body fat as well as LBM.
