Bulimic? Excercise-aholic? The CW network wants to hear your stories…

New CW series seeks to help women with ED

I just thought this might be something of interest to the members of this forum. There’s a new show on the CW called Secrets that is seeking out women 18-24 who are forced to lead a double life between their professional life and their addictive eating disorder. The purpose of the show is to provide these women with an outlet to address this issue so as to receive the help they secretly want and desperately need. If this sounds like something you would be interested in just go to to apply.

Hope this finds someone who could really benefit from this show!

I am a recovering bulimic and I was taught by my ex PT to replace the throwing up with lots of exercise. Something I still can't shake off

Hmm, that doesn't sound like such a bad fix.. I'm glad he/she was able to help you out a bit. Do you get enough meals in throughout the day? And does the excess exercise satisfy you?

Hope you're doing well, CypKitty.

exchanging bulimia for exercise is NOT as beneficial as you think

Hi CypKitty!

Though we typically describe bulimia as throwing up your food / drink / etc, it is actually any form of "cleansing out" or "getting rid of" your caloric intake. Ok that sounds confusing... let me try again....

Basically, exercising burns calories, so in a sense, it cancels out whatever you eat / drink /etc. Though you no longer throw up your calories to get rid of them, you are now obsessively exercising them away, so now you are an Exercise Bulimic. This is extremely common among Anorexia patients, especially because it allows them to convince themselves and others that they are "fine" since they are actually eating (though not enough since it's all burned off).

Eating Disorders are SOOOOOO sneaky and conniving - yours just changed before your very eyes and is disguising itself as something healthy / beneficial (exercise), but because you do it in excess, it is actually detrimental.

I know this sounds crazy and is probably hard to hear, but please get help (a registered dietician, therapist or Eating Disorder specialist)! Not only did my mom and sister suffer from Eating Disorders, but my best friend works at a treatment center, so I have seen it all and know how difficult it is to overcome.

I wish you all of the strength and courage in the world! If you have any more questions, PLEASE feel free to email me (nsteelman@blitzagency.com).
