Bug's Rushfit Journal

hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum, but I thought I'd give it a try.

I am 28 years old female, 4'11", 125lbs. I'm looking to lose weight, build muscle, and get into shape.

I've borrowed from a friend GPS Rushfit, which is an eight week boot camp fitness program designed by MMA fighter George St. Pierre and his trainer Erik Owings. I've been in martial arts for years, and all things considered and not in bad shape, but I still could be a lot better. I've tried some other workout programs, however one of my biggest downfalls is I lose motivation soon after I start. So I looked online for a forum where maybe I could get support from others like me who will help push me to stick with it and to secede.

So far here is what I've got.

Before you start the program they ask you to do an assessment, 4 exercises, each done for 60 seconds with a 20 second break in between. My results were:

Air Squats - 49

Push-Ups - 49

Sit-Ups - 32

Burpees - 12

Let me tell you I am feeling those air squats! I did the assessment on Saturday, February 4th. Yesterday February 5th, I did Day 1, which was the Strength & Endurance DVD.

Now I am about to begin Day 2. For this I am supposed to do cardio for 30 min. at heart rate zone 3, my cardio of choice is running on the treadmill. In the evening I will have the Stretching for Flexibility DVD, I don't believe I will have any problems with that one. In fact I am looking forward to the running and the stretching, because I am quite sore from the last two days, hoping these two things will help loosen me up.

I'll try to keep a ongoing journal of my Rushfit workout adventures on here.

Wow...if you can do 49 pushups in a minute you are in pretty good shape!

Welcome to the forum!

I bet you do well!

brawny77 - I grew up on a working dairy farm, carrying lots of hay bales and 5 gallon buckets full of grain. I also did martial arts for many years, and they like to make you do push-ups in those things, so my arms and shoulders are the most defined on my body, so I'm able to do a decent number of push-ups. I am far from being in shape though, and I have a lot of fat that I could stand to lose (mainly between naval and knees) :)

So here we are, just completed Day 3 of Rushfit. Yesterday I ran on the treadmill for 35 min. Broken down It worked out as: 5 min. walking at 3.5mph, 5 min. jogging at 5 mph, 25 min. running at 5.5 mph. In the afternoon I did the Stretching for Flexibility, which helped a lot. I was a lot less sword today than I thought it would be, which was good, because I needed all the help I could get.

Day 3 consisted of the Abdominal Strength & Core Conditioning DVD, and then in the afternoon the Balance & Agility DVD. The Abs & Core was pretty rough. There were a few exercises, like the back-bend, I just Could. Not. Do! Luckily, they gave modified versions for everything. Balance & Agility was hard too. A lot of hopping, and balancing on one leg while twisting. I have a bad ankle I have to wrap, so standing on one leg put a lot of stress on it.

I've also found because I'm working out on the cement of the basement floor, that I need to find some gloves with padding on the palms and wraps around the wrists for added support. Because you put your hands on the ground to support you a lot in exercise videos, lots of push-ups and planks too. But at the end of the day, I feel pretty good, I made it through both workouts, and so far I'm not that sore. Though I do have some residual soreness in my thighs from back during the assessment, hopefully that will work out soon.

Tomorrow for Day 4, it's the Fight Conditioning, I glanced over it and it will consist of a lot of punching and kicking, which I'm used to from martial arts, so I'm actually looking forward to it!

What I am having trouble with though, is a nutritional guide. The nutritional guide for Rushfit is fairly simple, but my current money and family situation, I have to make do with what's in the house and I can't afford to buy special foods just for me. I have at least tried to start making healthier choices. Eating more fresh vegetables and fruits and less fatty foods. Giving up soda wasn't too hard because by this point I had pretty much weaned myself off of that already. What I'm finding hard to give up though is: processed cheese, chocolate milk, whole milk, and sugar. I'm also finally starting to get as much water as I'm supposed to get in a day. Considering just a few years ago I used to drink no water at all, I take that' as an improvement!

I hope everyone is reaching their goals, we can do this!

The hardest work I ever did was hauling Hay when I was in high school. Alphalfa (did I spell that right?) was the worst!

Good start!

Keep going. You will see progress quickly
