Brazilian's Diary

Hi everybody! I hope it's not annoying that I started a second thread with my information, I'm a bit clueless as far as the appropriate manner in which to lose weight. Hoping you guys can help me! I plan on keeping track of what I eat and how much I exercise.

I'm about 5'7-5'8, female, 260 pounds, and I work out around 3x a week but I want to bump it to 5 times a week. If anybody could provide me with a near accurate estimate of how many calories I probably burn on a daily basis I would appreciate that.

I'm looking to drop around 3 pounds a week. I don't mind low calorie diets. I've been thinking about a Subway diet. Good idea? Bad idea? I am ready to lose weight and do all that is necessary to do it! I tried eating around 600-800 calories for a while, it wasn't hard- but I wasn't exactly shedding weight.

All and any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I ate two hashbrowns from Mcdonalds this morning.......d'oh... was on a long car ride back from my aunts.

Plan on eating a veggie sub from Subway (no mayo or oil) later in the early evening.

Also on getting in 30 minutes-45 minutes of cardio

I hate being big!

I hate having to dread logging into facebook and wondering if family members uploaded pictures from family functions just because I know I'll be the ugliest and biggest one in the photos.

Just saw pictures from a family members wedding that took place last weekend. I look so huge it's embarrassing :(

Hey Brazilian!

Working out 3-5x a week is great!

I know sometimes you don't see a lot of results on a day to day basis when dieting, but if you keep working out regularly and eating less calories, it should come eventually. Just got to be patient.

Just keep track of your weight and make sure you focus on the diet for a little bit. Once you start seeing results, it'll motivate you to keep trucking ;)

And make some short term goals like 5lbs and keep readjusting those goals as you hit them. If you only see the 70 lb weight loss goal, it'll feel too big to overcome! baby steps!

Keep it up!!

Ken

hi brazilian!
I girl from this forum showed me this and i think u can get an idea about how many calories you will need to loose weight.
Working out 3-5 times is great.I wish u luck!!!

Thank you guys!! for all your motivational words!!

Today:

- half of a hashbrown in the morning.
- one biscuit (no butter or jam)
- three blackberries around lunch (wasn't that hungry)

I worked out for 40 minutes. Burned 437 calories.

- Ate a slice of deep dish pizza (I didn't plan on it but it was a family member's birthday) It had cheese green peppers and onions.

- I will eat half of a serving of cake later on.

Day 2- 7/4/2011

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great 4th of July weekend. :)

So today so far this is what I have consumed!

- Roughly 1 serving of Cheerios (100-150 calories) with 2% milk (though I usually use skim)
- 3-4 blackberries (I will say that's about 5 calories)
- 2 tablespoons of corn flakes (maybe 20?)

I worked out for about 45 minutes. I didn't work out as intensely as I normally do though. Used the machine in the basement instead of going to the gym. I guess it was somewhat muggy and I just couldn't get into the zone I'm usually in. I burned about 350 calories on the elliptical, was hoping to burn around 500.

I'm about to shower and then go to Subway to pick up a turkey breast or black forest ham foot long on italian with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, green peppers, onions, olives, a little bit of mustard, vinegar, spices, and I am contemplating whether or not to include american cheese (that is the healthiest amongst the other choices) I know I probably shouldn't include it but it will be the last thing I eat before I sleep. Everything comes out to about 650 calories. (Source: )

All together at the end of the day I will have ate about 825 calories. Burned about 350.

Is this too much or too little? If anyone has any advice for me or suggestions or any kind of response please let me know! I'm a little worried that the subway foot long has about 90 carbs...but I did burn about 50 today.

:hurray: Hoping I'm on the right track!

Hello :D Nice work on doing 45 mins of exercise! That sounds pretty intense.

Personally I avoid cereal + junk food and try to stick with naturally grown foods as snacks. They fill me up better for less calories, make me feel "clean" (junk food doesn't make my stomach feel happy), and include plenty of good nutrition. It may sound difficult to resist temptations, but consider trying banana w/ fruit juice smoothies. They're yummy, nutritious, and extremely filling (they pretty much replace 1 meal for me). I just add ice, fruit juice, and a frozen banana, so it's very simple and convenient - oohh try it after an exercise routine :D Also, may I ask why you decided to go with fat-filled milk this time around? Though fat-free milk doesn't taste as great, I got used to it now.

Oh and you're eating too little calories, especially for the amount of exercise you're doing. It's recommended not to have a calorie deficit of more than 500 calories from your maintenance level to achieve a permanent lifestyle change, to curb your cravings, and to have enough energy for the longterm. Too little calories for a long time = harder to lose weight, harder to resist food, and harder to move around with plenty of energy. I know from experience :( The worst of it was feeling light-headed and extremely weak walking up a few flight of stairs.

Anyhoo, best of luck with your diet. I'll be keeping track of your progress ^_^

Thanks so much Dragon! :)

I'm trying to balance how many calories I eat. But here's my thinking. I'm about 260 pounds, don't I have enough fat for my body to burn off without me having to eat 1200 calories? :)

Good luck to you too!

DAY 3 7/5/2011

DAY 4 7/6/2011

So I'm not going to be home until Saturday and have rarely had any free time due to being at a conference for work.

Was not able to work out. Again.:mad::mad:

Today I ate/drank
- A few small pieces of a loaf of bread
- A half a can of apple juice
- A bottle of water
- A bottle of diet pepsi
- A burrito with chicken, lettuce, cheese (Medium sized burrito)
- Quesidilla with shrimp/cheese
- Some tortilla chips

From what I know, you should try to do no more than 500 regardless of your weight. Your body is used to a certain maintenance level to keep your current weight, and going any lower (even when overweight) than 500 for awhile will make your body think you're starving and try to hold on to as much fat as possible (to help survive a famine, for example - just the way our bodies have evolved to behave). Your body needs more calorie fuel to carry around the extra weight.

In addition, eating so low calories will eventually catch up to you in that one day your will will be weak, and you'll want to eat lots of food. I remember a time when I was eating low calories, and I just gave in one day and started eating more than I should have. For some reason my cravings couldn't be satiated so I just kept on going.

It's really a question of if you want to fight your body. It'll get upset and eventually start fighting back by making you crave food. We can only resist for so long! By staying within 500, it'll think "Oh, that doesn't seem too bad" and think you're doing just fine when it comes to food access.

Dont worry about not being able to workout in the gym - thats life. But nothing stops you from bringing your sports shoes along when traveling. You can go for very fast walks/runs in the morning or evening - 30 minutes will do.

You can also do exercises using bodyweight only - your muscles dont care whether you are in a gym!

Thanks Sweat! I like your user name btw.

Yes, it's only a matter of timing when I travel for work. I wake up at 5 and have to get ready and prepare for meetings/conferences. I'm usually at them at all day and am exhausted by the end of the day. I could maybe try and find some time regardless.

DAY 5 7/7/2011

- serving of Tofu Soup (Tofu and minced pork in soup stocked with green onion, cabbage, white onion & Thai seasonings)

- Chicken Pad thai

DAY 7 7/9/2011

You are eating nowhere near enough!!! You can't eat less then 1200 calories.. What you ate today is like... 500? 600 maybe?.

Candeka, Thank you for your response. I see this is your first post on the forums, welcome! :beerchug:

I have been conflicted with what's eating enough and what isn't. I believe I ate up to maybe 900 calories yesterday since my salads are usually pretty big and hearty. I guess I'm going with the assumption that since I am so over weight (260 pounds) I have enough fat stored in my body for my body to burn as fuel for the first couple months. Does this sound stupid?! I don't know. I'm trying to eat a little more and eat more healthy while working out but it doesn't always work as planned.

Day 9 7/11/2011

Today I worked out for 48 minutes. At the days end I will have ate:

- 1 bowl of plain cheerios
- a bowl of purple grapes and blackberries
- a salad w/ grilled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, feta cheese, croutons, and vinegar dressing.

Still too much or little?

Hi, its good to see you so motivated but what you need is a sustainable long term plan.

Intense daily work outs are too much, and difficulty to sustain. Try working out 3 days à week, and increase your overall activity level the rest of the time.

For calories, you can calculate how many you need to eat at maitenance level and go 500 calories below it. My guess is that would probably lose weight at 1500-1800 calories. My philosofy is to eat as much as possible (healthy food), until weight loss stops. Than adjust the diet. In any case, 900 cal is way too low and not sustainable on the long term.

Also, keep in mind that if you want to work your body ( gym), you need to feed your body! And if you want to work out harder, you need to provide better fuel.
