Brand New Member, Brand New Me?

Hello Hello,

I just stumbled across this amazing resource and community while surfing the web to find ways to improve my health as well as maintain focus by feeling supported by others. I have not been active since I finished high school 2.5 years ago and although I am not totally unhealthy, I want to get into better shape. I want to improve my quality of life and get into better habits that will create a very healthy routine to follow.

I am a woman of Filipino descent, 20 years old, 129 lbs., 5' 4". I just took the Fit-o-Meter test and it says that i have a BMI of 22.10. I am interested in improving my stamina and endurance, learning how to properly lift weights, and begin yoga and meditation to help focus my mind and de-stress.

My main goal is to stay motivated and establish a fun routine that will keep me healthy.
I'd love if any of you could point me in the right direction of getting started with improving my fitness.

Here's a specific question: I'm looking to join a gym for a few months until I move back to my university. The closest chains to me are LA Fitness and 24 Hour. Any suggestions, or advice that will help me choose the right gym? I am also looking into going to yoga classes at the local Yoga Center:

Thanks!!

I've been a student personal trainer and have worked out since age 15, (now 49 years old,) and personally find it more fun to belong to a bigger chain gym like L.A. because of the latest equipment, variety, and programs available should you get bored with one routine. Unless your're a slacker it's difficult to run out of unique training program worth trying. Plus you can use any L.A. Fitness gym nationwide if you're traveling or just want to try an out of town branch. They also have a staff cleaning the clubs around the clock which I REALLY appreciate! Some of the smaller muscle head gyms have low standards when it comes to manners, cleanliness, and dress codes. Planet and L.A. are some of the few that make improvements when needed.
