boxing+bulking..

i just wanted to know if i box a few times a week will i be overtraining or doing too much cardio to bulk up? i asked this question before but no1 really answered it..

i go a few rounds on the heavy bag/speed bad i shadow box for a few minutes and once in a while ill do some sparring.

thankss

I was wondering if doing 5-10 on the heavy bag before any workout is a good substitute for running because I don't particularly enjoy running anymore. I think it would be a better warm-up for the upper body too.

Question about the speed bad because you mentioned it, is it really necessary when I have a heavy bag? I found it annoying trying to hit the thing. For the heavy bag I'd just take my rage out or use some energy on it. I know someone who was really buff and he told me the heavy bag is a great way to just totally tire yourself out. I have one but I have to hang it up first, damn messy basement.

boxing is great cardio

you can bulk at the same time though - if you work hard enough on the weights

if you couldnt, you wouldnt have a heavyweight division

Don't forget that when boxers are training, they still do their cardio workout, including running and skipping rope, before hitting the bag. I don't think that hitting the bag is a great replacement for any of the aforementioned cardio, however anything done for an extended period of time that raises your heart rate can be beneficial.

(Oh, and Liquid Tention, it's usually considered bad form to ask questions in someone else's thread before anyone has contributed information. It's called 'hijacking'. FYI)

If all you are doing is a few rounds a couple days per week, then I don't think it would detract from your attempts at bulking up as long as you aren't doing much additional cardio and your diet is solid.

If you are training for actual competative boxing, putting on extra bodyweight is extremely hard for most individuals due to the running and hard sparring alone, not to mention the required training on all the bags, focus mitts, and rope skipping.
