hi thanks!

well i did it for about 2 months a year ago and got great results! unfortunately i had exams around that time and as im a stress eater i gained all the weight back. problem is now im even heavier so its going to take even longer this time...and I didnt reach my goal weight last time I still had around a stone to go so...im hoping the weight will be off in maybe 4 months but we'll see. Its worth taking the time! I just hope the motivation and willpower doesnt fail me! xxx

I think one of the big things is managing your expectations. That along with planning for life after the diet can really play an integral role in successfully keeping the weight off.

If you simply focus all your attention on the diet, getting the weight off, and the scale... chances are pretty good that you'll struggle if/when you lose the weight to keep it off.

yes thats so true. Iv definately learnt my lesson. Being heavy makes me so miserable...and I remember being on slimfast before i was so much happier...i know it doesnt work for everyone and its not a good healthy diet for long term but it does work and im going to ensure i dont gain the weight back this time!

What exactly is the Slim Fast plan?

It's not so much that I hate the idea of anyone following the SF plan, considering I don't know much about it. From what I know though it's a bunch of shakes and bars and that's no way to eat long term... as you stated.

So if you want to start with it, great. If that's what keeps you motivated to stick with it. But eventually, I think you'll have to start reprogramming your brain to eat healthy, balanced meals that you enjoy. Without leaving the rigidity of a structured diet plan, you're really setting yourself up for failure. That's a blanket statement not really directed at you based on my own experiences working with people, so take it for what it's worth.

Let's not forget that anything works assuming by work we mean weight loss. Anything that controls calories works. There's nothing magical about SF over whole, natural foods.

Of course there's more that goes into successful dieting than calories... but that's the 'primary fundamental' if you will.

And I'm not trying to change your mind about anything. Just want to make sure you have all the information so you can make the best decision for YOU.

I know thankyou for your advice. The slimfast plan is basically a shake/meal replacement bar/soup/cereal for 2 meals a day, a healthy 600 calorie meal and 2 100 calorie snacks.

I have tried before to lose weight by simply calorie counting or eating just very healthy so salads etc. My problem is for some reason i feel deprived and cant stick to it. However with the slimfast plan its completely taken out of my hand and is very simple. For example i dont have to think about what i will prepare for lunch etc. or how many calories in a certain meal as its all done for me. I think its the structure of it that makes it a good plan for me. Also for some reason i think because of this my mind is in the right place to be motivated and keep going if that makes sense?

So how many total calories per day? I didn't follow.

I do understand the niceness of not having to worry about food prep and whatnot. But it is what it is... for most, plans such as this will be a temporary way of eating that more often than not will lead to temporary results.

When you were eating real foods and controlling calories, I wonder what exactly you were eating and how much. The foods you put in your mouth play a large role in satiation.... protein being the most satiating nutrient. Also, eating too few calories will throw hormones out of whack quick thus signaling hunger more so than had you used more sane numbers.

welcome to the forum!!! may i ask what your goals are?!? im always curious to know... lol...

oh and do you watch "you are what you eat" ??? i lived in germany for several years and i often watched it on BBC and was soo excited when i found that it is on BBC America!!! im actually getting ready to watch it now!

my goal is to lose about 30-40 pounds by the end of august before i start college...

im off to a pretty good start... yesterday i did 10 miles because i was soo excited... but i intend to do about 5 miles a day of intended exercise because that is like the equivalent of 10,000 steps a day which is considered healthy...

-10 minutes on a stair stepper
-alternating every other day with upper body and lower body workouts
-8 glasses of water

and just in general to try and eat healthier... lately my thing has been a banana/strawberry/or whatever i have blended together to with some ice and a bit of low fat milk for a nice smoothie!

haha... i didnt mean to go off on such a tangent!

haha no its nice to hear! I guess we have very similar goals then! Id love to chat to you properly...do you have msn?!

xxx

lol... sorry no msn... i do however have myspace!

but i dont really talk about my lack of confidence on there... soo we would still be just messaging back and forth... lol

jeez i was just checking out my myspace... and it suddenly became very obvious that all i have are headshots... to disguise my less than perfect body lol
