BodyWeight

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster.

I have a couple questions about body weight training. I am currently cutting right now and since I can't go to the gym for a couple months, I decided to do body weight exercises. I know muscle gain with calsthenics when on a cutting phase is pretty much impossible and I am alright with that, but I would like to get stronger since I have been doing kickboxing but recently quit and will start up again in a couple of months due to personal reasons. Usually I do 3 sets of regular push ups with 15 reps, 3 sets of body weight squats with 45 reps and 15 reps of 3 sets of crunches. I do one set of push ups, i set of body weight squat and i set of crunches followed up by 3 minute shadow boxing. I then rest for 5 minutes and do it again for 4 times. I do this every morning and then do sprinting or long distanced running every tuesday, thursday and saturday at night time.

I know it's pretty old schooled haha but is this enough to gain a bit of strength and help in cutting? I just need to do it until I can start up kickboxing and go to a gym in like 2 months.

Thanks For the Help.

Are you basically going to failure on these sets or are you stopping at a set number? Do some pull ups too for the lats/bis along with decline pressups or handstand press for the shoulders.

Pullups are a must. Whether lying under something, or actual vertical. I would be sure to add in some planks, jumping jacks, and try to walk on your hands. The amount of upper body strength development you'll get from that is insane!

Pretty much set number. I think I could probabaly do a couple more reps if I wanted to go to failure.

If you keep doing the same work, your body will not increase in strength. Keep increasing the stress level. That way your body will have to get stronger. If you can do 3 sets of 15 reps, do 3 sets of 20, then 3 of 25, etc...

Sorry for the hijack, but what are planks and jumping jacks? Always looking for stuff to add to my bw routine.

I was thinking of doing my body weight routine everyday in the morning and then still do my runs every 2 days. Do you think doing it everyday is more beneficial or more of a hindrance if I wanted to gain strength and cut bodyfat.

Bodyweight in my opinion isnt really a problem for me everyday. It really depends on the intensity of your sessions the length of them and how that relates to your run.
