Bodyshape/muscle reduction problem

Hope its ok to post this in here even though Im not female.
Im male, 20, and weigh around 65kg.

My problem is that my bodyshape is out of proportion. I have a skinny upper body, but my lower half - legs and hips, are rather bulky because I used to do loads of squats.
Ive been told to overtrain my legs using lunges and lots of reps, to reduce the size. Can someone tell me if this will work and how it works?
I am currently following a healthy diet, eating meals with carbs and protein 5/6 times a day. I do cardio using an exercise bike 4 days per week.

I havent started an upper body routine yet but will do so soon. I only have dumbells to use when I do start.

Can someone please advise if following this routine will help me reach my goals (the goal being to reduce the size of my legs/hips)? I worry that by doing so many lunges I may end up with bigger legs. Also what diet should I be following - a fat loss one?

It is true that you may be able to reduce the size of your leg muscles by overtraining them....but there are other options. How about starting with focusing on increasing the muscle size of your upper body. Then, switch to fat loss. You'll lose fat all over, but it will help slim down the lower body and you'll look fit all over. You would want to eat higher calories while you focus on building up your upper body and then lower calories during fat loss. Does that make sense?
My lower body has always been more developed then my upper as well. I've focused on building up my upper body and I'm looking a lot more even. Let me know if I can help.

That's right, the key to looking better is to fill out your upper body Phil, you really should keep the muscle in your legs fit.
