Body Type?

I honestly didn't know about the different body types until yesterday, specifically the names. I'm talking about ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph. Apparently I'm an ectomorph according to a friend of mine since I can wrap my thumb and middle finger around my wrist and make it overlap easily. Somehow I don't see it. I never had a really high metabolism when I was younger, I couldn't just eat whatever I wanted and stay thin. I had to work hard to lose my weight. I also had a fair bit of muscle. How do you tell which one you are? Am I possibly in between two body types?

I don't think it is possible to be between 2 types if you truly believe that way of catagorizing people. I think it dates back to Greco-Roman times and they didn't allow for much varience. (I remember studying this a long time ago, but I may be getting it mixed up with something else... If someone else has more info, feel free to let me know I mixed up! :))

However, it could be that you're not eating for your body type. The key with this type of catagorization is that different foods and nutrients and exercise are better for each type of body. If you're eating/exercising as a mesomorph or endomorph, they you may have slowed your digestion down.

You can find a lot of info on these and how to figure out what one you are just by searcing google. Good luck!

I had to look these up because I've never heard of them before, but one of the sites I was just on says...

"Very often, people cannot be easily classed as one of the three main body types. Although there are some people who are purely ectomorphs, endomorphs, or mesomorphs with little or no characteristics of the other body types, very frequently, people fall into mixed categories, such as ecto mesomorphs, or endo mesomorphs, where largely, they are like the mesomoph, but with traits of the ectomorph (such as small joints or a trim waist), or traits of the endomorph (such as a tendency to gain fat easily)."

There's rarely someone who is pure one and not the other. And remember, your body doesn't obey the categorizations. It's the other way around... these categorizations are merely a way of thinking about and defining the body.

It's a very rough model.

I hear you on the confusion. Someone told me I was an ectomorph because, like you, I can overlap the thumb and middle finger around my wrist. But what they didn't seem to realise was the fact that I have enormous hands! Somehow I don't think that huge hands tie in with the general picture of an ectomorph.
