does anybody else use bodyfat % to work out what their goal weight should be ? or do you use BMI and why ? which do you think is more accurate ?

My reasons for choosing BF% is because no matter how much fat i loose acording to BMI i will be obese because of the quantity of muscle i have for my short 5'2 height.

I think it makes sence, Trusylver. BMI is only generic height to weight ratio, and it does not take into account your body composition, so for people who have a lot of muscle BMI may say "overweight" even though they are perfectly healthy. I've read many times that atheletes with bulky muscles should not use BMI as their guide whether they need to loose weight, but rather body fat %.

Personally don't use either BF% or BMI to tell me whether I need to loose weight or where to set my goal. I prefer to judge by my looks, by how I feel, what size of clothes I wear, etc.

Cheers!

i keep an eye on all those numbers. i have always known exactly what my BMI was/is and also body fat %. but i dont do weights so i just assumed as i lost weight, my bf% would go down. not always the case...but anyway my bf% was something like 35% and now its around 17% according to caliper measurements. not sure which is more accurate, maybe sean would know?
