blisters from the treadmill

I recently started using the tredmill at my local YMCA gym. I do 4 miles with it set at 4.0 speed( i think this is 4mph) for 4 miles. I do it in an hour. Then I walk 1/4 mile more to cool down. I did this 3 days in a row. my legs don't get sore because I have pretty good mucsles in my legs. I have gotten blisters on the balls of my feet, more on the left foot but both right behind the big toe. I run in decent running sneakers and was thinking those dr. scholls gellin pad might be the awnser or something. I have had it for 2 days and its less painful now and hasn't popped so I think I am gonna do 4 more miles on it tommorow anyway.

I would like to do 4 miles 5 days a week but if I keep getting blisters it stops my progress. I currently weigh 176 with clothes and hope to get to 150 as my first goal.

I am supplementing my cardio work with ECA, which I have been on since Wednesday. It really gives me the energy needed for longer workouts. Time will tell about the weight loss.

what socks are you wearing? blisters generally come from feet getting damp and then the dampness rubbing...

Either that or you've got the wrong sneakers... and they aren't fitted properly...

yeah they were only 15 bucks. I will be forced to use them a couple more 4 mile sessions this upcomming week, the blister still hurts slightly but its getting hard and turning into blood blister on the edge. I plan on going to the gym around 5pm hopefully I can do the whole 4 miles on it, or I might switch to the bike instead of the treadmill to give it more of a rest.

ah yes, cheaper sneakers make a biiiiiiiiig difference. i decided to go for some $50 aus ones when i first started walking. within 2 months there was a hole right thru to the other side on both where the back of your foot sits, and holes thru to the ground on the front of my feet.

got some more for $40 and the soles came out within 3 weeks. looks like it might be worth it to get some decent ones...

although - i did try skate shoes - bit more bang for your buck and last longer. but they are not suited at all - they give me blisters on 4 parts of my feet.

so looks like i need to fork out some more for my sneakers and the peace of mind.

I started getting a blister on my foot from walking on the treadmill, but when I am running or interval walking/running, there is no problem with blisters even if I go the same amount of time.

The shoes I have are running shoes and not walking shoes. Perhaps you should get a shoe that is designed for walking if you plan to keep up the walking on the treadmill, and invest in some of those sweat wicking socks.

Also, if you are wearing the same shoes every day, there could be a problem with them not drying out completely before you use them again.. I'm not sure if there is a way you can get them dry faster, but try not to wear them all day long and then go walk in them too. (this may help)
