Blackouts

I dont know why but often after ive done some cardio and i sit down for a while, when i stand up again i get a head rush and everything starts to fade black, then it goes again and im fine. Generally the more demanding the cardio session, the worse the head rush.

Its not dehydration, its not the food im eating and i have no weird illnesses either.
So any ideas? Could it be my defecit is too much?

Someone else just mentioned this problem.

This is a serious issue IMO and should not be diagnosed by strangers off the net. You should go to the doctor.

Cant be that rare then if someone else has only just mentioned it.

I'm not saying it's rare.

I said it was a serious issue.

On 20 Feb, my husband had something like that happen. It's never happened before.

He 'came to' as he was crashing into another car.

We're fortunate he was going as slow as he was. We're fortunate he wasn't on the freeway yet. We're even more fortunate he didn't kill someone.

Do you want to take that risk? I know I wouldn't!
If it happens again, while driving - you will be held negligent by insurance companies.

It's just not worth it.

I dont think we are talking about the same thing. Its never happened when just sitting down. I mean after demanding cardio sessions. Back in high school after a half hour assembly, i remember a girl nearly lost her balance when standing up at the end, she said she got a head rush and nearly passed out! Its weird but cant be that serious.

passing out is not normal behavior not is it behavior that should be ignored... It might very well be nothing, it might be something, but strangers on the internet cannot diagnose you... tell your parents and get to a doctor... you want to go anyhow to find out why you're not losing weight anyhow... kill two birds with one stone

I have a one-person sauna in my home and if I stay in too long I get the same thing you describe. When I stand up I feel dizzy and I have to sit back down because my vision goes blurry. I need to sit for about 5 minutes and then I'm fine again. It's definitely not a good thing... I think it's because of dehydration or over-heating. I don't get it when I work out though... maybe you're pushing yourself too hard. If it's just happening when you workout regularly I would go see a doctor. It's probably not a big deal but you might as well be careful right?

Have you not read my other thread? I'm losing weight again, i just wasnt doing enough cardio. I would worry if i passed out. It might just be because i dont cool down after cardio.

What exactly did you want us to tell you?

We gave you sound advise - don't take advise from stangers on the net for serious health issues. Consult a doctor.

Passing out is not considered a normal result.

You can choose to ignore our advise, it's totally up to you - however, just because you might not like our input, keep in mind...YOU asked.

Calm down. If you re-read my original post, you will see that i didnt actually ask for advise. I asked for possible ideas as to why it is happening, not what to do about it.
Turns out it is nothing serious anyway as freshman15 posted. I probably just need more water, simple as.

And once again, i have never passed out in my life, by "blackout" i mean when my vision begins to fade when i stand up quickly, then my vision returns to normal again. Passing out is when you drop to the floor and fall unconscious.

Because im not concerned enough to be diagnosed.

I guess I can only hope you're not old enough to drive.

EasyE - you have always been adversarial to anything I have said to you. That's fine. We don't have to like each other or agree.

However, you DID ask for input.

It bothered you enough to bring it to the forum.

Blacking out is NOT normal. Yes, it happens, but it should not be taken lightly.

What is so wrong about talking to your parents or a doctor?

Nah i cant drive yet. Not that i would be in any danger if i could, as ive already said its never happened when sitting down.
I'm not disliking you or being adversarial. If you take the time to slowly read through the thread, you will see that i didnt once try to provoke a negative reaction from you or say anything negative towards you period.
I asked for input in the form of "why is this happening?" Not, "How do i stop this from happening?".

"So any ideas? Could it be my defecit is too much?"

"Could it be my defecit is too much" isnt a solution, its an idea of why it is happening. I dont know how to break it down more simply, but i never asked for solutions, just reasons.
I know blacking out is not normal, but it only started since increasing my exercise and/or being on a calorie defecit. Which concludes that its very likely just to be dehydration, i tend not to drink when doing cardio which isnt a good habit.
I remember asking my mum a while ago and she said its normal, everyone gets it sometimes.
If it gets worse even when drinking more, then i will be concerned. But this is just making a mountain out of a mole hill especially since ive already heard 2 cases of the exact same thing happening to different people in the space of a couple of hours since making the thread.

I have the same problem. Here are my thoughts on the issue...
First of all, I would see a doctor for advice before adhering to anything someone says on an online forum.
Generally, the immediate cause for this was in my opinion the sudden rush of blood from the action of sitting to standing. Other causes could be dehydration, lack of energy (low food-intake), hypertension (high BP), and other things.
The symptoms I had along with the blackouts were light headedness, slight disorientation/vertigo. Now when I had the "black outs", they looked more like noise filling my eyes rather than an immediate loss of vision.
When I went to a doctor to get it checked out (back when I was 11), they sent me to a cardiologist and did some blood tests and a stress test. They all came back normal, and the only abnormality was my blood pressure.
My theory (just a theory) is that this is caused by hypertensiveness, and even if you don't have high blood pressure, the rush of blood from switching from a seated to standing position could cause temporary hypertension; the same could be said about any stressful physical activity - like cardio workouts. Now the reason why I believe this could be mainly caused by hypertension is because I also experience this when I get shots, when I have any nervousness or anxiety, and when I get out of a hot shower. Those events would all cause hypertension if you got excited enough.

XTTX - all excellent reasons for causing black outs. I also wanted to add that low blood pressure can cause it also. In my husband's case, they found an electrical problem with his heart that caused his heart to beat too fast (like cardio would), his body's way of dealing with it was to lower the blood pressure, which in turn was too low for the blood to go to his head. Causing the black out. It had never happened before.

The doctor said that these 'conditions' are more common then people realize, and that the standard 2 minute EKG given in most doctor's offices once a year isn't enough to diagnos the problem. The only way to find the problem is to be on a monitor for more then 24 hours.

Just because a symptom is common does not mean it is benign or shouldn't be paid attention to.

In normal circumstances, people do not black out.

I'm not sure what the difference is. Asking a *doctor* for a reason is the best course of action. That is all I've recommended.

I'm glad to hear you don't drive.

XTTX what you describe is identical to what i get. My blood pressure is perfectly normal by the way. Its just hypertension, but its worse when im thirsty. M2M, i dont think its wise for your husband to be driving, lives could be lost lol!
And if you dont know the difference between a reason and a solution, maybe you should go back to school.

Right - it's a good thing he went to a DOCTOR and was fixed.

Seems a more sensible approach then asking strangers on the net for their 'thoughts' on the subject.

In the over all scheme of life EazyE - you're arguing semantics and it's petty.
Knowing the cause with out having a solution is pointless.

if u stand up too quick it can make u dizzy. things like being anaemic can make u faint. I kept almost fainting for a while and the doctor told me i was rundown and to keep an eye on my iron intake and what i was eating.
