For those of you who know me, you know my history here, for those of you who don't, I guess a little background is in order.
I am 32, 5'4" and currently weight 174 pounds. I started losing weight in January 2007 at a weight of 264 pounds. Yes, I know it is taking me a long time to lose weight but for me, as agonizingly frustrating as it is, is what I need for it to stick.
Anyhoo - In October I started on the Nuvaring. I hadn't been on any type of hormonal birth control for, I would say, at least 8 years. I had been having some consistency problems with eating and working out but in November I got myself back on track with both things. I work out 5x/week and have been eating 1500 cals/day (this number may have to be adjusted upwards based on a misinterpretation of the Harris-Benedict Formula but so be it)
Over the last two weeks or so I have noticed that my weight isn't really changing despite eating in a deficit and working out my normal schedule. In addition to this, I have noticed that my abdominal area has taken on a more bloated, puffy appearance that doesn't go away.
I know that 'weight gain' is one of the listed side effects of hormonal birth control. If that is in fact what is happening here, and it may not be, how does one go about working around that? I know that if I cut my calories lower, I will just mess with my metabolism and set myself further back.
In short, how can you continue to lose weight while on a medication that has as a listed side effect, weight gain?
Thanks!
