Bindu's Weight Loss Dairy

I was never more than 50 kgs or 110 lbs, until I was 30, when I became pregnant. I was 65 kg/145 lbs before I gave birth to my son. 3 months after delivery, I wasn't bad weighing 55 Kg. But when I had left US, and came back to India, I started gaining weight. In the past 2 years I gained lot of weight and am currently 63 Kg (139 lbs). I know why I gained weight. Because of the rich Indian Food, and because I am eating like a freak. I had to gradually abandon my XSmall, Small, Medium and now Large dresses. Well, I now no longer can afford to through away my Large size dresses :-( This is my primary motivation behind the decision to lose weight. My other motivation factors include, 1)I got a second face in terms of my huge ugly double chin. I really hate it. 2) I now have a belly big enough to be mistaken as a 6-month pregnant belly.

Well, I have gotten started. The Goal is to lose 8 Kgs. Once I get back to 55 Kg, I want to maintain it with a healthy lifestyle, for the rest of my life!!!

I have started on 25-Nov-12, Sunday.

I am consuming 1300-1500 calories a day.

My exercise is 1000 jumps a day.

I am trying to consume as fewer calories as possible and am trying to do as many jumps as possible.

I promised myself a Pizza if I lose 1 lb by next Sunday :) (Of course, will later burn it off...)

But I have noticed one thing in these 5 days of my diet/exercise routine. I am happier :)

There is a quote in "Legally Blonde" movie. "Exercise releases Endorphins. Endorphins make people happy."

With my exercise routine, I am experiencing that the above quote is true. This is a good reason why one shouldn't skip the exercise routine, throughout the life. After all, we are born to be happy :)

Thanks, @MrVee...

I only had less than 750 Calories yesterday. I heard less than 1000 Calories is not advisable, I am also feeling weak :-(

Determination is very important, I guess, when one wants to lose weight :-(

Had 1050 Calories today, but only 500 jumps :-( coz I am lil sick...

I went down by 3 lbs in 1 week !!!!!

I think I have done a good job :)

Original weight 138 lbs (25-Nov-12)

Current weight 135 lbs (02-Dec-12)

I couldn't have Pizza :-( on Sunday as I promised to myself. Well, good for the diet :)

I had 1050 calories yesterday. No Exercise. My sickness continues. But will try to do atleast half of the required exercise today.

I increased my calories intake a little bit, because I was feeling weak. I was having less than 1000 calories, but now I have decided to have more than 1000 calories but still less than 1200 calories. I do need energy to handle my 2.5 year old highly naughty (that's a positive word) son :-(

I have decided to listen to my body cues. If I feel hungry, I wouldn't mind going little above 1200 calories. But I do not want to compromise on my exercise routine, unless I am really sick.

I have lost 3 lbs last week :)
I cannot wait to see how many pounds would I be losing this week :)

I love this forum. This thread really is helping me to keep myself motivated. Whenever I feel like eating some high calorie food, I immediately remember that I should let people know about it. And then I feel it shame to let people know that I am NOT determined :-( Hence I take the thoughts of rich tasty foods away from my mind and would stay determined :)

I haven't really set any goal till now regarding how many pounds to lose and in how many days.
I will do that now.
Since I seem to be able to lose 3 lbs a week, I would want to enter into the new year weighing 125 lbs (56.6 kgs) .

Original weight 138 lbs (25-Nov-12)

Current weight 135 lbs (02-Dec-12)

Goal weight 125 lbs (01-Jan-13)

I am positive, I will succeed :)

How to boost our metabolism??

1) Build some muscle
2) Do Interval workout with high intensity intervals
3) Sleep well
4) Eat often every 2 or 3 hours
5) Have balanced diet. Eat food high in protein and fiber
6) Take fish oil (EPA and DHA)
7) Last but not the least... Work Out.

I went out today. Considerable walking, standing and tiring journey. I couldn't (need not) do any additional workout.
I consumed almost 1040 calories today. Will check my weight tomorrow morning.

I have never really discussed here, what I exactly eat. Will do that now. I try to take the balanced diet. But I consider it practically impossible for me to take as many required fruits and veggies as required. I try to maximize protein and minimize carbs.

Breakfast - Toast/3 idli/3 dosa, coffee with milk and splenda
Lunch - rice (low in starch), Dal, Vegetable curry
Dinner - 2 Phulka(roti), Dal, Vegetable Curry, salad
Snack - soup/fruit salad

Hurrayyyy.... I lost another 3 pounds in week :) :) :)

Thanks to this forum for keeping my motivation on....

I had 915 calories yesterday and did cardio for 1 hr.

I doubt this week I may not lose 3 lbs....Being 132 lbs, I will not be spending as many calories as when I was 138 lbs.
Also, since couple of days, I am not feeling as weak as I felt before...
Is it that my body got used to the Ketosis? Or is there something wrong with my diet/workout plan? Or is it that I simply need to workout more?

Hi Bindu!

Congratulations on your weight loss.

I would think you are feeling weak because you aren't getting enough calories. Less than 1,000 calories is likely too few calories especially with exercise.

I don't think that your body is in ketosis as your diet does contain carbohydrates. That's not a bad thing as you are losing weight, but maybe try to eat enough to not feel weak and aim for 1-2 pounds lost per week. After an initial water weight loss if you continue to lose more than 2 pounds a week, then chances are you are losing muscle which you don't want. The more muscle mass the higher your metabolism. Losing muscle mass will make it harder to maintain your weight over time.

I am much much more overweight than you, but I know how to lose weight. I'm just really bad at sticking to what I know. Good luck to both of us!

Thank you very much @Quercus for your reply.

Yes @Quercus, even I'm really bad at sticking to what I know :D, in general. I am new to losing weight though.

Losing muscle mass is scary! I don't want to go through that.
May be I am greedy I wanna lose 3 pounds a week :-(
Yes I am truly too weak that I am unable to do my daily activities. Sometimes, I simply have no energy to sit/stand and am simply laying down on the bed...

May be it's time to revise my diet/workout plan a little bit...

Well I have decided to consume 100/150 calories extra, which would be protein. I may not need more than that as I am only 5'3". I am not a big fan of Non-vegetarian food, but I have decided to eat chicken daily.

Here is the way I am working out since couple of days. Not sure if this is what is really called interval workout. I do skipping for approximately for 1 minute. I get tired because of its intensity. I then do the less intense ones like slow treadmill/slow cycling for 1 to 2 minutes until I am ready to do skipping again. I repeat this cycle for 1 hr. Sometimes I pull light weights in between my skipping. Am not sure how many calories exactly I am losing this way, but am sure this workout plan is intense enough.

There are plenty of good protein options that are vegetarian. Tofu, seitain, beans, and nuts. I was vegetarian for years and I still eat plenty of veggie meals. I live in an area that is very centered on meat consumption and with local travel for work and little or no vegetarian foods available I eat more meat than I care to.

Good luck!

Thank you @Quercus. Sure, will try the Vegetarian protein.

Well, yesterday too I stuck to my diet/exercise plan. But, I had some peanuts yesterday. And I doubt if it's a mistake, as peanuts are fattening???

I am curious and tense as I am going to check my weight tomorrow. Not sure how many pounds would I have gone down.

Yes, I lost another 3 pounds this week, in spite of not trying to lose that much... I am 129 now.
Well, oops, that's indeed a happy thing provided I hadn't lost the muscle.

Yesterday too I followed my diet/exercise plan. I did manage to eat little above 1000 calories, but I kinda had some rich food yesterday. I had chicken Biryani which is rich in spices(not a problem) and oil :-( But I made sure I ate only limited amount of it to fit into my calorie calculations. This is the first time in my life I had such a small amount of chicken Biryani:cry:
