BigMike's Journey Begins

Hello everyone, my name is Michael, aka Bigmike. This has been my nickname for a long time since I have been big practically my whole life. I am 23 years old, 6'7, 371lbs. I was always active growing up. I played football all through high school, competed in weight lifting competitions, was on the track team as a shot put thrower (not running competitively.) I was still big though, tallest and one of the heaviest in my school. I was however in decent shape through those years I just didn't eat healthy at all. I am a southern boy. Good southern home cooked meals plays a big roll in why I've always been this way.

After graduating high school I became really lazy. I entered into the real world and quit being so active. I hardly ever exercised, quit lifting weights, and was still eating very unhealthy. I have continued like that for five years now. I did try dieting some and always failed miserably. I was addicted to food and drank way to much sweet tea, soda. After a day or two I would go back to my old habits.

Well that has changed now. I started last Wednesday on a new lifestyle change, I was 377 on this day. Yes I said lifestyle. This is not about weight loss as much because I know once I lost the weight I would gain it right back. I am changing my life forever. I am making better choices on the foods I eat and counting calories. I am also not drinking anything but water, over 150oz. a day. I am not doing this for anyone or any cause other then myself and my health. Eating the way I was, I know I was cutting years from my life.

I mainly created this diary as a way for me to look back on life changes and physical changes. I probably will only update this some though. Mainly as I lose weight.
Thanks for reading!

Hey Mike! Welcome :)

Good luck in your new lifestyle. Trust me, it will be very rewarding. Creating this diary will be very helpful because it makes you aware of what you're consuming and what kind of physical activity you have going on. It holds you accountable.

What kind of physical changes are you making?

Thanks gohomejes,

As far as physical changes, I am just going to lose weight and built muscle. I'm not looking to be 150lbs and built like Arnold. With my height and that weight I would be a string bean. At this point I don't have a weight goal. I want to get to a good looking weight(probably at least 100lbs.) During the weight loss progress I will do cardio and lifting. More on the cardio side at first though to lose the weight. Once most the weight is gone I will start lifting harder while still doing cardio.

Week One

Week One:

Down 8lbs. since my official start date last Wednesday 3-2-11. Calorie intake is going well. Eating much healthier then I ever used to and drinking tons of water.

Hopefully by my next update ill be down 12lbs.

Week Two

Week Two:

Well I have officially outlast all my other failed attempts at weight loss! Week two has flown by and I'm still going strong.

No soda, no fried food, no pizza, no ice cream, no cake, etc... for two weeks now:hurray:

I had a virus Friday and Saturday so I didn't eat much but a few saltine crackers. Couldn't keep nothing else down. I am down 12lbs. since 3-2-11. I have hit a plateau now though, I've been at a 12lb. loss since last Friday. It is a little discouraging but I knew it would happen, and I know this won't be the last. I am just going to push through it and keep working!

Be back next week for a update....

Good luck on getting over it! Maybe your body is probably still recovering from being sick maybe it will let go of some pounds when its back up to normal. I don't really know if thats how it works but it was a thought lol

Week Three

Week Three:

Wow has this week flew by, actually these last three weeks have! I am down another 4.2lbs this week. For a total of 15.1lbs lost total in 3 weeks!! My scale always fluctuates during the week up or down 2-3lbs, I weigh everyday. But it is going down every week:hurray:

So far this weight has come off with little exercise. I have only did A LOT of yard work for the past three weeks everything else as stayed the same as far as working. I have not gotten a gym membership yet. I start in the gym again full time very soon. I will be doing cardio and lifting.

I have not really noticed much in my clothes fitting any different but I am down a belt notch which is showing improvement. I did have a NSV today also. My lawn mower has two joy sticks and you have to move them towards your body to reverse. Well today they did not hit my stomach like they did last year.

Anyways I am still going strong on my food change and sweets are not tempting anymore. I hope to be down another 3lbs. next week.

Be back next week for another update...

Week Four

Week Four:

Well I am down another couple pounds this week to bring my total to 20lbs lost in four weeks. I couldn't be happier, I never expected to lose 20lbs in only four weeks. I am not doing any fad diets, no *magic* weight loss pills. Just watching calories and exercising.

If you would have ask me two months ago if I ever thought I could stick to a lifestyle change I probably would have told you no. I had finally just had enough though and here I am four weeks later still going strong.

I will continue updating here that way when I get to where I want to be I can reflect back at my fat loss transformation.

Week Five *Late*

Week Five:

My weigh in day is Wednesday and I am late posting this. I have been tied up for the last few days. Anyways week five did not go well on the scale. I was up 1.9lbs for the week. I did not change my eating habits over the week so I'm not sure why I went up. Oh well I can't stress over it, it's just one of those things. I just stuck with my eating habits, exercise, and pushed on into week six. I am down a few more pounds from week five now but my official weigh in will be Wednesday, so I will report back then with this weeks loss. I am still going strong and hoping for 5lb. loss this week to make up for last weeks gain.

Week Six

Week Six:

Well six weeks have come and gone faster then I expected. I am down 5.9lbs this week. Bring my total to 23.7lbs lost since March 2nd.

Mini goal now is to hit the 30lb mark before May 1st.

Update

Wow, it's been awhile since I updated this. Well I am still going strong its been about 12 weeks now since I've started turning my life around for the better. I am down 40lbs. now. My weight has fluctuated like crazy the past few weeks but 40lbs down non the less. I have decided not to weigh myself for a few weeks, I am tired of seeing the scale numbers go up and down like I was seeing when weighing 3-4 times daily.

I leave in a little over a week for a 7 day vacation so I will not weigh again until I come back. The condo I'm staying in doesn't have a gym so I will try to find a local one for a week pass. If all else fails ill workout on the beach or something.

Anyways, just thought I'd give a quick update in case someone came across this and figured I'd given up like all my previous attempts. I still have a long way to go but am making progress everyday.

Mike, According to the Healthy Weight Charts at your height, you can weigh over 200 lbs and still be in the healthy range. Good Luck!

Hey big Mike, congrats on your progress!!! You are doing great, When I started my journey 26 months ago I only weighed once a week since the body fluctuates so much. Keep up the great work, have a great time on vacation. Running on the beach is an awesome workout:)

Update

Well I figured it's time for another update. I am officially down 50 pounds!! 50.3 to be exact. It has been three months and seventeen days since I started on a new lifestyle. I couldn't be happier with the results thus far. I had a mini goal set to lose 30 pounds in the first three months and I met and exceeded that goal!

I am feeling better then I have in a long time. I still have a ways to go with my fitness level and final weight loss goal but each day it's getting a little easier. I do not have cravings for foods that I used to eat, anymore. I have grown to actually like healthier foods that four months ago I would have never touched.

As far as noticeable loss in weight I can't really see it. I know it's there because my clothes are looser and the scale is moving down. Others are noticing though which is even more motivating to me. When the next 50 is gone I'm sure ill see a visible change in the mirror.

My next mini goal is going to be the same as my first, thirty pounds in three months. I may beat it, but do not want to fall short of it. I wouldn't mind another 50+, but I don't want to lose to much to fast.

Anyways I'll be back to post further losses soon!!

Big Mike
